FREQUENTLY ASKED QUESTIONS ABOUT THIS RECIPE:
HOW TO PROPERLY HANDLE DRY ICE?
Dry ice can add an amazing foggy effect to your punch, but remember, safety first! Always use gloves or tongs to handle it, and never let children touch it.
Wait until all the fog has dissipated before you start sipping.
For a fun effect, try pressing the flat part of a metal pan or chef’s knife firmly against the dry ice. It will make a spooky “screaming” sound that the kids will love!
WHAT IS LONGAN FRUIT?
Ah, the star of our punch! Longan fruit is a sweet, juicy fruit that’s somewhat like a lychee.
In some places of the world, it’s called a dragon’s eye! It makes a perfect ‘eyeball’ and adds a lovely, syrupy flavor to the punch.
What a great way to level up your festive punch!
WHAT DOES THIS TASTE LIKE?
Think of it as a berry paradise in a punch bowl! You get the sweet base flavor of cherry, a tangy kick from cranberry, a smooth sweetness from white grape, and a unique, mellow sweetness from the longan fruit.
Add some fizz with ginger ale, and voila! A perfect fruity Halloween punch.
IS THIS KID-FRIENDLY?
You bet! This witch’s brew punch is non-alcoholic and full of fruity flavors that kids adore.
However, make sure to supervise if you are using dry ice to create the fog effect. The last thing you want is dry ice burns!
ANY ADDITIONS?
Oh yeah, you could go in all kinds of directions here. Check out these ideas!
- Add a scoop of orange sherbet or lime sherbet for a fun, frothy top layer
- Sprinkle some gummy body parts for extra spookiness
- A dash of pineapple juice for tropical flair
- Use apple cider instead of grape juice for an autumnal twist
- Lemon-lime soda to increase the fizz factor
- Ice rings with embedded gummy worms
- A few drops of green food coloring for a witch’s brew look
- Lemonade concentrate for added tartness
- Blood orange slices for garnish
- A splash of pomegranate juice for a richer color
HOW TO STORE:
Refrigerator: Keep the punch in a sealed large pitcher or cover your punch bowl with plastic wrap to keep it fresh. I always like to make a big batch, and sometimes that means leftovers!
Freezer: Not recommended, as freezing can alter the texture and flavor of the punch.
DANA’S TIPS AND TRICKS:
- Chill, Chill, Chill: Make sure to use chilled juices and ginger ale for a refreshingly cold punch.
- Size Matters: When making ‘eyeballs,’ make sure to match the size of the blueberries with the longan fruit. They should fit snugly.
- Berry Beware: Frozen berries can stain your hands. Use gloves if you want to avoid smurf fingers! Then again, maybe that’s perfect for the spooky season!
- More Color: For a punch with a more vibrant hue, feel free to add a drop or two of food coloring.
- Adults Only: Want to make an adult version? Replace half of the ginger ale with champagne or prosecco for a spirited twist.
- Ice It Right: If you’re using ice cubes, opt for fun shapes like skulls or pumpkins to keep the Halloween spirit going.
This Eyeball Punch is not just a drink, but an experience—a show-stopping centerpiece for your next Halloween party.
With its spooky eyeballs, foggy ambiance, and burst of flavors, this punch will make your Halloween night unforgettable.
