Jason Decker

I’m Jason Decker. I run This Silly Girl’s Kitchen with my daughters, and every recipe on this site gets cooked in our kitchen before it gets anywhere near yours.

Where I learned to cook

I’m not a culinary school chef, and I won’t pretend to be. I earned my stripes on a real kitchen line. I worked as a paid line cook through college, one dinner rush at a time, and I never stopped cooking after that. For my family, for friends, for big parties where I was feeding a crowd, and now here, for you.

How a recipe earns its spot here

When a recipe goes up on this site, it isn’t a guess. It’s been cooked, tested, and cooked again until it works the first time you make it. My daughters Maddie and Lizzie help test, so when something gets the kid stamp of approval, it actually got one. Sherman, our poodle, handles anything that hits the floor.

Before TSGK I spent 26 years in the auto industry, working from the floor up to General Manager. What got me there was systems and consistency, and it’s the same way I run this kitchen. Every recipe is tested, measured, and written so a brand new cook can follow it and get it right.

The kitchen I took over

This Silly Girl’s Kitchen didn’t start with me. Dana DeVolk, a culinary trained chef, founded it and built it over 12 years, and hundreds of the recipes here are hers. In January 2026 my family and I took over the site. I’m building the next chapter on the foundation she laid. The whole story is on the About page, and I wrote about the leap itself in I Bought a Food Blog.
