Two amazing flavors combine to make this super easy and delicious Chocolate Chip Bars Recipe. With easy ingredients and short on time, this is a perfect bar recipe.

I’m obsessed with the combination of peanut butter and chocolate chips and these Cookie Bars do not lack in that are at all. This chocolate chip bars recipe is perfect with peanut butter, peanut butter chips, and chocolate chips.
HERE IS WHAT OUR READERS ARE SAYING:
“These look really good for sure. Nice and rich and sweet, which would be perfect to take care of any sweet tooth one may have.” – Mandi
Cookie Bars are super fun and easy, quick to whip up, and require minimal time and effort. This recipe is perfect any time of year and for any type of function.
I love recipes that you can make whenever you want. They are perfect for gatherings, bake sales, or just because you want some sweets around the house.
These Chewy Chocolate Chip Cookie Bars really are what the name states; they are soft and chewy cookies turned into bar form.
If you don’t want to make individual cookies but want that cookie flavor, chewy Cookie Bars are the perfect compromise. I think they’re better than regular cookies.
These are a staple in our household, and we make lots of different flavors, but peanut butter and chocolate trump pretty much any flavor, in my opinion.
Once you try this chocolate chip bars recipe, it will automatically become part of your dessert rotation—and I’m not being biased on that one—just wait until you make them yourself!
Some of my other favorite bar/blondie desserts we have on our site include: Cinnamon Roll Blondies, Carmelitas and Lemon Bars.

FREQUENTLY ASKED QUESTIONS ABOUT THIS RECIPE:
WHAT IS THE TASTE AND TEXTURE OF THESE COOKIE BARS?
Peanut butter cookie base loaded with peanut butter chips and chocolate chips!
This is the perfect treat for the peanut butter with chocolate lover.
Way easier than making a bunch of small cookies, just mix, bake, and cut!
The cookie bars are thick, slightly crisp on the outside, and soft and chewy on the inside.
If you like more of a gooey center, under-cook these for about 5 minutes.
CAN I USE CRUNCHY PEANUT BUTTER OR NO PEANUT BUTTER?
If you want to use crunchy peanut butter, you can use it in place of the creamy peanut butter 1:1.
If you don’t want peanut butter in the cookie batter, just replace it with an equal amount of more butter.

ANY ADDITIONS?
You bet!
Trying new things is a good idea and a fun way to upgrade your favorite chewy chocolate chip cookies or bar cookie recipes. These simple add-ins can help you get the best flavor and the chewiest cookie bars every time.
• Teaspoon of Instant Espresso Powder
Stir it into the flour mixture to boost the chocolate flavor. Perfect for your first time trying a twist on a classic chocolate chip cookie.
• Flaky Sea Salt
Sprinkle flaky sea salt on top before baking for that sweet-and-salty combo that pairs well with semisweet chocolate chips or dark chocolate chips.
• White Chocolate Chips
Toss in 1 cup of white chocolate chips for a fun, sweet layer of flavor and a triple chocolate bar.
• Dark Chocolate Chunks
Use chocolate chunks or melty chocolate for that gooey texture in every bite. Great with brown butter or dark brown sugar in the mix.
• Chopped Nuts
Add 1 cup of chopped walnuts or pecans for crunch. It’s a great way to level up the chewy texture of your cookie bar.
• Toffee Bits
Fold in 1 cup for a caramel-like flavor that’s a huge hit with peanut butter or milk chocolate chips.
• Shredded Coconut
Mix in 1 cup for a tropical twist and chewy consistency.• Cinnamon
Add 1 teaspoon to your flour mixture for a warm, cozy flavor that works especially well in easy bars and quick dessert recipes.
ANY SUBSTITUTIONS?
Though I do think this is the perfect recipe for cookie bars, feel free to try out these ideas!
- Crunchy Peanut Butter: Use crunchy peanut butter instead of creamy for added texture in the cookie dough.
- Natural Peanut Butter: For a more wholesome option, substitute regular peanut butter with natural peanut butter, though this may slightly affect the texture.
- Butter Substitute: For a dairy-free option, use margarine or a plant-based butter substitute without sacrificing the rich, buttery flavor.
- Almond Butter: Swap peanut butter with almond butter for a different nutty flavor and to cater to peanut allergies.
- Gluten-Free Flour: Use a gluten-free all-purpose flour blend in this chocolate chip cookie bar recipe instead of regular flour to make these bars gluten-free.
HOW TO STORE:
These can be stored in an airtight container where they will keep at room temperature for up to 5 days.
They can also be frozen, to do this you can individually wrap the bars in plastic wrap and place them in a freezer container where they will keep for up to 3 months.
To defrost, you can either place it on a countertop or in the refrigerator overnight until thawed.
DANA’S TIPS AND TRICKS:
- You can halve this recipe if you’d like and bake in a 9×9-inch pan.
- Use any of your favorite chocolate chips, we use semi-sweet but milk and dark chocolate will also work.
- Other mix-ins can be added, see above for ideas.
- You can use crunchy peanut butter instead of creamy if you’d like.
- If you want less of a peanut butter flavor you can leave it out of the batter, see above on how to replace it.
- We have not tested with natural peanut butter so I do not know the outcome of using that.
- These can be frozen, see above on how to do that.
