FREQUENTLY ASKED QUESTIONS ABOUT THIS RECIPE:
CAN I USE A BOX BROWNIE MIX?
Absolutely, homemade brownies are amazing but you can use a box mix in a pinch.
Use your favorite box mix that will fit in a 9×13 baking dish. Prepare per the directions on the back of the box, then proceed with step 8 of the recipe.
CAN I MAKE THIS FROSTING WITH ANOTHER FRUIT?
Yes! I have made these so many times, my favorite version happens to be these chocolate strawberry brownies. They truly taste like chocolate-covered strawberries in brownie form.
Almost any pureed fruit will work but I prefer berries, here are some ideas:
- Blueberries
- Raspberries
- Cherries
- Blackberries
CAN I ADD ANYTHING?
So many options, here are some ideas to add to the brownie batter:
- Chocolate chips – dark chocolate chips work really well
- Nuts: pecans, or walnuts are great
- Sprinkles
- Chopped-up cookies like Oreos
Add to the frosting and toppings:
- Pulverized freeze-dried strawberries will add an extra pop of flavor
- Drizzle of melted chocolate – milk chocolate, white chocolate, semi-sweet, or dark will all work
- Chopped chocolate sprinkled on top works well, the texture difference is a nice addition. Use a good quality chocolate and chop up a chocolate bar
- Make an easy chocolate ganache and spread it on top of the strawberry frosting.
- A sprinkle of chocolate chips of any kind, mini chocolate chips are super fun
- Slices of fresh strawberries
ANY SUBSTITUTIONS?
I mentioned using a box mix in place of the homemade fudgy chocolate brownies above.
Instead of strawberry buttercream, use the same amount of cream cheese frosting and add the strawberry puree, strawberry extract and food coloring to it.
