Oreo Brownies (Oreo Fudge Brownies)

This post may contain affiliate links.

Oreo Brownies are what happens when a fudgy brownie meets a thick layer of cookies-and-cream fudge, and honestly, they might ruin every other brownie for you. I made a pan for a weekend bake sale and Maddie begged me to keep them, so now they are our go-to when we need a dessert that disappears fast. If you love our no bake Oreo cheesecake, these bars are the handheld version.

Quick Answer

How do you make Oreo Brownies?

Bake a pan of fudge brownies and let them cool completely. Beat cream cheese with powdered sugar, melted white chocolate, and vanilla until smooth, then fold in crushed Oreos. Spread the Oreo fudge over the cooled brownies, press more crumbled Oreos on top, and chill for about 4 hours until set before slicing into bars.

Why This Recipe Works

Click to see the technique science
  • Two desserts in one. You get a rich, fudgy brownie base and a thick, creamy Oreo fudge topping in every single square.
  • A boxed mix shortcut. Starting with a fudge brownie mix means no fussy from-scratch baking, so anyone can make these.
  • That cookies-and-cream flavor. Crushed Oreos folded into a white chocolate cream cheese fudge give these bars big cookies-and-cream flavor.
  • Make-ahead friendly. They need to chill to set, which makes them perfect for prepping the day before a party or bake sale.
  • Feeds a crowd. One 9×13 pan cuts into 20 rich squares, so they are ideal for potlucks and holidays.
  • No-fail topping. The white chocolate stabilizes the cream cheese fudge so it slices clean and holds its shape.

Key Ingredients

A boxed mix and a handful of pantry staples make these Oreo Brownies come together fast.

  • Fudge brownie mix: The shortcut to a rich, fudgy base. Bake it according to the box using eggs, water, and melted butter.
  • Cream cheese: Softened to room temperature so it whips up smooth and lump-free for the fudge topping.
  • White chocolate chips: Melted and beaten in, they sweeten the topping and help it set up firm enough to slice.
  • Powdered sugar: Sweetens the fudge and gives it that smooth, creamy texture.
  • Oreos: Half get crushed into the topping and half crumbled on top for that signature cookies-and-cream look, just like in our no bake Oreo cheesecake.

Variations and Substitutions

These Oreo Brownies are easy to switch up.

  • Use a different Oreo flavor like Golden, Mint, or Peanut Butter for a fun twist.
  • Make the brownie base from scratch if you prefer, then top as directed.
  • Add a drizzle of melted chocolate or a sprinkle of mini chocolate chips over the top.
  • Swap the white chocolate for melted semi-sweet chocolate for a double-chocolate topping, like our chocolate cream cheese frosting.

Recipe Tips & Tricks

  • Cool the brownies completely before adding the topping, or the fudge will melt and slide off.
  • Use room-temperature cream cheese so the fudge whips up smooth with no lumps.
  • Do not overbake the brownie base, pulling it when a toothpick has a few moist crumbs for the fudgiest result.
  • Chill until fully set, at least 4 hours, so the bars slice cleanly.
  • Wipe the knife between cuts with a warm, damp cloth for neat, bakery-style squares.
  • Store in the fridge, since the cream cheese topping needs to stay cold.

Serving Ideas and Suggestions

These Oreo Brownies are rich, so cut them into small squares. Serve them cold or let them sit at room temperature for a few minutes to soften slightly for the fudgiest bite.

They are a natural for a dessert table. Set them next to our Oreo dirt cake and a plate of cosmic brownie cookies for a cookies-and-cream spread.

A cold glass of milk is the classic pairing, or add a scoop of vanilla ice cream and a drizzle of chocolate for a plated dessert like our chocolate earthquake cake.

Store the bars in an airtight container in the fridge for up to 5 days, or freeze them for up to 3 months. To freeze, cut them into squares, flash freeze on a tray, then wrap and store. Thaw in the fridge before serving so the topping stays creamy.

Oreo Brownies FAQs

Do Oreo Brownies need to be refrigerated?

Yes, because the topping is made with cream cheese, Oreo Brownies should be stored in the refrigerator. Keep them in an airtight container for up to 5 days. Let them sit at room temperature for a few minutes before serving so the fudge softens slightly.

Can I use homemade brownies instead of a mix?

Absolutely. Any 9×13 batch of fudgy brownies works as the base, whether from a mix or from scratch. Just be sure they are baked and completely cooled before you add the Oreo fudge topping so it sets properly.

How do I get clean slices?

Chill the bars until fully set, at least 4 hours, then use a sharp knife and wipe it clean with a warm, damp cloth between each cut. Cold, firm bars and a clean blade give you neat, bakery-style squares.

Can I freeze Oreo Brownies?

Yes. Cut them into squares, flash freeze on a tray until firm, then wrap tightly and store in a freezer bag for up to 3 months. Thaw them in the refrigerator overnight before serving so the cream cheese topping stays smooth.

What kind of Oreos work best?

Classic Oreos are perfect, but this recipe is a great way to use fun flavors too. Golden Oreos, Mint, Double Stuf, or Peanut Butter Oreos all work well. Use whatever you love, keeping half crushed for the topping and half crumbled on top.

Why is my fudge topping too soft?

The white chocolate is what firms up the topping, so be sure to melt it and beat it in fully. If the topping still seems soft, chill the bars longer. Very warm kitchens can also keep them soft, so keep them refrigerated until serving.

  1. Dana….I am your Mom’s cousin down here in Florida. My Grandson loves Oreos so this will be perfect for him. Love love your posts. Great recipes with easy to follow instructions. Keep up the fantastic job.❤️😎❤️😎

  2. Unfortunately, it wouldn’t be a “fudgy” topping without the cream cheese. But, if you did use whipped topping in place, it would be like a fluffy oreo topping which would be completely amazing and I may need to try that for myself! I would just mix the Oreos with the whipped topping, you don’t need the other ingredients then.
