Why This Recipe Works
Click to see the technique science
- Dry pudding mix is the thickener. The instant pudding powder absorbs the pineapple juice and cream cheese moisture, thickening the dip and adding vanilla flavor without any cooking.
- Marshmallow creme adds fluff without grit. Unlike powdered sugar, marshmallow creme sweetens while whipping air into the base, so the dip stays cloud light and never gritty.
- Cream cheese keeps it from being too sweet. The tangy base balances the marshmallow and pudding so adults love it as much as the kids do.
- Crushed pineapple goes in last. Folding the fruit in at the end keeps the dip fluffy and distributes juicy pineapple through every scoop without deflating it.
- The chill sets the texture. Two hours in the fridge lets the pudding starch finish hydrating, transforming the mixture from soft batter to scoopable mousse.
- One bowl, one mixer. Everything builds in the same bowl in stages, which is why this 24 serving dessert takes 10 minutes of actual work.
Why You’ll Love This Recipe
- Five ingredients, one bowl, zero oven time, it is the easiest dessert you can carry to a potluck.
- It feeds 24 people at about 111 calories a serving, lighter than nearly any other dessert on the table, including our tropical cheesecake salad.
- It doubles as a fruit dip AND a no bake dessert filling, leftover dip spooned into graham cracker crusts makes instant mini pies.
Key Ingredients

Five simple ingredients build this fluffy tropical dip, here is what each one does.
- Cream Cheese: One softened 8 ounce block is the tangy backbone that keeps all that sweetness in check. Full fat whips the smoothest.
- Instant Vanilla Pudding Mix: Used dry, straight from the box. It thickens, sweetens, and flavors in one move, the same shortcut magic as our key lime pie fluff salad.
- Marshmallow Creme: A jar of fluff brings the airy, nostalgic sweetness that makes this taste like a fair treat.
- Whipped Topping: Eight ounces of thawed whipped topping lightens the dense cream cheese base into a dippable mousse.
- Crushed Pineapple: A 20 ounce can, drained very well. The fruit carries the tropical flavor, the draining protects the texture.

Variations and Substitutions
This cream cheese pineapple dip plays well with the whole tropical pantry. Some favorite spins:
- Pina colada dip. Add a half teaspoon of coconut extract and a quarter cup of shredded coconut, instant vacation, just like our pina colada cupcakes.
- Cheesecake pudding swap. Use cheesecake flavored instant pudding instead of vanilla for an even tangier dip.
- Add crunch. Fold in a half cup of chopped toasted pecans or sprinkle granola on top right before serving.
- Orange fluff style. Swap the pineapple for well drained mandarin oranges, or use half of each.
- Lighter version. Reduced fat cream cheese and lite whipped topping work fine, the pudding mix holds the structure.
- Make it a salad. Fold in mini marshmallows and maraschino cherries and call it an ambrosia inspired fluff salad.
How to Make Cream Cheese Pineapple Dip

- In a large bowl with an electric hand mixer, whip the softened cream cheese and dry pudding mix together until well combined.

- Add the marshmallow creme and beat until the mixture is smooth.

- Add the whipped topping and mix until smooth and fluffy.

- Add the well drained crushed pineapple and gently fold it in.

- Cover with plastic wrap and chill in the fridge for at least 2 hours. Serve with your favorite cookies and fresh fruit for dipping.
Recipe Tips & Tricks
- Drain the pineapple like you mean it. Press it in a fine mesh strainer until juice stops dripping, extra liquid is the only way this dip fails.
- Soften the cream cheese fully. An hour on the counter means zero lumps. Cold cream cheese leaves white flecks no amount of whipping fixes.
- Use the pudding mix dry. Do not prepare the pudding, the dry powder is the thickener.
- Save the drained juice. It is liquid gold for smoothies or a splash of homemade coconut pineapple lemonade.
- Chill at least 2 hours. The dip thickens dramatically as the pudding hydrates, patience equals perfect texture.
- Garnish at serving time. A few reserved pineapple chunks on top makes it look bakery worthy, the same finishing trick as our strawberry cheesecake dip.
Serving Ideas and Suggestions
Sugar wafers are the iconic dipper for cream cheese pineapple dip, their light crunch against the fluffy dip is perfect. Vanilla wafers, graham crackers, golden Oreo style cookies, and pretzels all earn a spot on the platter too.
On the fruit side, strawberries, apple slices, grapes, and banana chunks love this dip. For a holiday table, serve it as the centerpiece of a fruit board next to our flag fruit pizza for a full red, white, and fluffy spread.
Leftovers have a second life as dessert, spoon the dip into mini graham cracker crusts and chill for instant tartlets, layer it with crushed cookies in parfait glasses, or serve it alongside our no bake raspberry cheesecake bites on a no oven dessert tray.

Cream Cheese Pineapple Dip FAQs
Yes, draining is the most important step in cream cheese pineapple dip. Press the crushed pineapple in a fine mesh strainer until the juice stops dripping, a 20 ounce can holds nearly a cup of juice that would turn the dip soupy. Save that juice for smoothies or drinks, and fold the well drained fruit in last.
Sugar wafers, vanilla wafers, graham crackers, animal crackers, and pretzels are the classic dippers for cream cheese pineapple dip. On the fruit side, strawberries, apple slices, grapes, and banana chunks are perfect. It also works as a spread for bagels and a filling for mini graham cracker crusts.
Yes, this dip is actually better made ahead. The cream cheese pineapple dip needs at least 2 hours in the fridge to set, and overnight is even better, the pudding fully hydrates and the flavors blend. Make it up to 2 days before your party and give it a quick stir before serving.
Stored covered in the refrigerator, cream cheese pineapple dip keeps for 3 to 4 days. Give it a stir before serving if any juice separates. Do not leave it sitting out longer than 2 hours at a party, it is a dairy based dip, so keep the serving bowl nested in a larger bowl of ice for long events.
Freezing is not recommended for cream cheese pineapple dip. The whipped topping and cream cheese separate when thawed and the pineapple turns mushy, leaving a watery, broken texture. The good news is the dip takes 10 minutes to make fresh, and it keeps several days in the fridge.
You can, with one caution: chop fresh pineapple very finely, drain it well after chopping, and expect a slightly looser dip since fresh fruit keeps releasing juice. Canned crushed pineapple is actually ideal for cream cheese pineapple dip because the texture is uniform and the juice drains off cleanly. Avoid using the juice packed syrup either way.

This is a Great Dip and is versatile for many various Dippers. I have learned that the Crushed Pineapple needs to be atleast partially, if not most of the juice drained off. It is way too soft/thin if You just add the Pineapple undrained.
This is soooo good with Ginger Snaps! I’m going to have it on the dessert table for Christmas with Gingerbread men.
This dip is delicious!!! It’s super easy to make and it’s always gone at all our partys!
