FREQUENTLY ASKED QUESTIONS ABOUT THIS RECIPE:

WHAT ARE BUFFALO CHICKEN LETTUCE WRAPS?

Chicken tenders tossed in buffalo sauce, topped with crunchy celery and red cabbage, drizzled with bleu cheese dressing and more bleu cheese crumbles… BAM!

If you like buffalo any and everything… you have GOT to try these!

If you don’t like bleu cheese, don’t worry – use ranch instead and the cheese of your choice!

DO I HAVE TO USE BUTTER LEAF LETTUCE?

For this recipe, I used butter leaf lettuce. I love how butter lettuce naturally has huge cups that are easy just to snap off, clean, and eat.

However, you want to ensure the lettuce is sturdy enough to hold your filling.

Butter lettuce is a tender leaf, but the cups are easy to wrap, making them ideal.

More lettuce varieties you can use for lettuce wraps include iceberg lettuce and romaine lettuce as well. Sometimes butter lettuce is hard to find.

Iceberg lettuce is a classic to use for any chicken or beef lettuce wrap. It is a hearty lettuce that is crisp and will hold up to lots of filling, while still being tender.

Romaine lettuce is also good, but the leaves do not make for the best cups. They are an awkward shape for lettuce wraps, but it stands up to fillings and has a great crisp texture.

WHAT KIND OF CHICKEN SHOULD I USE?

To simplify it, we use deli-prepared chicken tenders that we have cut for this recipe.

You can also use frozen or make your own homemade chicken tenders as well.

You decide which great option to pick. All these delicious flavors should keep you happy!

  • Add diced red onion and bell pepper for extra crunch and flavor.
  • Include green onions on top for a fresh garnish.
  • Sprinkle with black pepper or cayenne pepper to enhance the spice level.
  • Drizzle with ranch dressing instead of bleu cheese dressing if you prefer.
  • Top with creamy avocado slices for added creaminess.
  • Add a sprinkle of garlic powder and onion powder to the buffalo chicken mixture for extra flavor.
  • Include fresh veggies like shredded carrots or cucumbers for more crunch.
  • Serve with a side of buffalo cauliflower for buffalo chicken fans.
  • Garnish with blue cheese crumbles and green onions for a burst of flavor.
  • Add a dollop of Greek yogurt mixed with hot sauce for a tangy kick.

All that buffalo goodness means this recipe should become a family favorite!

  • Chicken Tenders: Use rotisserie chicken or cooked chicken breasts cut into bite-sized pieces for lean protein.
  • Butter Lettuce: Substitute with romaine lettuce leaves, iceberg lettuce, or Boston lettuce for different types of crisp lettuce cups.
  • Bleu Cheese Dressing: Replace with ranch dressing or a mixture of Greek yogurt and herbs for a lighter option.
  • Buffalo Sauce: Use your favorite brand of hot sauce or make a sauce mixture with hot sauce and melted butter.
  • Blue Cheese Crumbles: Omit or substitute with shredded cheddar or mozzarella cheese based on personal preference.
  • Celery and Red Cabbage: Swap with other fresh veggies like shredded carrots, diced bell peppers, or sliced cucumbers according to your personal preference.

Lettuce wraps are not the recipe you will want to store for the long haul. You will want to eat them once they are made.

You can, however, prep your ingredients ahead of time before you make them.

We do this a lot. We like to toss our chicken in the buffalo sauce, separate our lettuce leaves, put them into baggies, and chop our vegetables, so when we are ready to eat, all we need to do is assemble.

DANA’S TIPS AND TRICKS:

  • We used deli chicken tenders for this recipe, but you can use frozen, cook according to package directions. This will add some time onto the recipe itself.
  • The best lettuce to use is butter, but there are other options, see above.
  • You can make your own homemade blue cheese sauce or bottled for this recipe. Our favorite is Litehouse.
  • If you are not a fan of blue cheese, ranch is always a good substitute.
  • Feel free to add whatever other toppings you like, this is a great base recipe to build off of.
