FAQ: FREQUENTLY ASKED QUESTIONS ABOUT THIS RECIPE:
DO I HAVE TO TOAST THE BUNS?
You don’t have to, but toasting the buns in the air fryer only takes 1-2 minutes and gives them a warm, slightly crispy texture.
It’s the best part for some people!
I think it really adds that special something.
You can also brush the buns with a little melted butter before toasting for extra flavor.
WHAT KIND OF HOT DOGS ARE THE BEST TO USE?
Any type of hot dog works, but for the best results, use good-quality ones like Hebrew National or Ball Park.
I’m a huge fan of the old fashioned hot dogs as well.
You know, the ones that have the casings with just a little bit of crunch with each bite? YUM!!
You can also try air fryer brats for a little something different!

ANY ADDITIONS?
You name it, and it’s probably been put on a hot dog, haha! Take your pick.
- Add a slice of cheese under the hot dog before toasting the bun
- Top with hot dog chili for chili cheese dogs
- Sprinkle on chopped onions or jalapeños
- Add sauerkraut or coleslaw
- Drizzle with yellow mustard or honey mustard
- Spread mayonnaise or spicy mayo
- Add shredded lettuce and tomato
- Top with favorite condiments like relish or pickles
- Use brioche buns for a soft, rich flavor
- Serve with a side of french fries or potato chips
ANY SUBSTITUTIONS?
Swaps are pretty easy in this case. What’s your own favorite way of making hot dogs?
- Use brioche buns instead of regular hot dog buns
- Swap out all-beef franks for plant-based hot dogs
- Use gluten-free buns if needed
- Use turkey or chicken hot dogs for a lighter option
- Toast buns in the oven if you don’t want to use the air fryer

HOW TO STORE:
ROOM TEMPERATURE: If you’re serving at a party or picnic, leftover hot dogs can stay out at room temp for up to 2 hours.
After that, they need to be refrigerated.
REFRIGERATOR: Place any leftover hot dogs or buns in an airtight container in the fridge.
They’ll stay fresh for 3 to 4 days.
FREEZER: You can freeze cooked hot dogs in a freezer-safe bag or container for up to 2 months.
Reheat them in the air fryer for a few minutes until warm and crispy again.
DANA’S TIPS AND TRICKS:
- Don’t crowd the air fryer basket—cook in a single layer for the crispiest results.
- Flip the hot dogs halfway through the cook time for even cooking.
- Use a sharp knife to make a few small cuts in the inside hot dog—this helps them cook more evenly and look cool!
- Want extra texture? Brush the buns with melted butter before toasting.
- Don’t forget the sides—serve with potato salad, chips, or even air fryer potato wedges for a complete meal.
- Let kids pick their own hot dog toppings—it makes dinner fun and customizable.
Air Fry Hot Dogs are one of the easiest, fastest meals you can make.
Whether you’re feeding a crowd or just making a quick lunch, this recipe is a total winner.
With simple steps, easy clean-up, and tasty results, it’s no wonder this is quickly becoming the favorite way to make hot dogs.
