With minimal and tasty ingredients this Lobster Roll can be made in no time, a perfect summertime sandwich that any seafood lover can enjoy.

This Lobster Roll has been one that I’ve been making for years. It’s a super simple recipe that doesn’t have a ton of ingredients, just enough to give it flavor but let the lobster taste shine through.
HERE IS WHAT OUR READERS ARE SAYING:
“Has company over for dinner last night and these were a hit. Everyone loved them!” – Norma
The one best thing about living by the coast is we have access to so much fresh seafood. I’m a seafood lover by nature but when it comes to lobster, I’m in heaven.
There really nothing better than fresh lobster or fresh seafood of any kind in my opinion. Especially when you can get it already broken down for you.
It makes life so much easier when you can buy it fresh and split it into the sections that you are going to use rather than cooking the lobster and breaking it down yourself.
So that is one thing that we really love about this recipe is that we were are able to get it broken down for us so we can just use the meat that we are wanting.
Also, this recipe really makes life feel fancy, even if it’s really simple. Am I right?
This Lobster Roll holds a special place in my heart. So, from our family to yours, let’s get into it!

FAQ: FREQUENTLY ASKED QUESTIONS ABOUT THIS RECIPE:
WHAT LOBSTER MEAT SHOULD I USE?
For this Lobster Roll Recipe, we use the claw and knuckle meat and that is the meat that is usually used. The knuckle meat is held in the shell between the claw and the body of the lobster.
If you like you can use the whole lobster, lobster tail or buy already packaged claw and knuckle meat which we did for this recipe. However you want to do it is perfectly fine.
ARE THERE OTHER WAYS TO MAKE A LOBSTER ROLL RECIPE?
You can make a warm lobster roll, the recipe we have here is cold. To make a warm Lobster Roll Recipe you’ll need warm melted butter, salt, pepper, green onion, parsley, garlic, paprika, etc. Depending on what your preferences are the seasonings can change.
The same lobster meat will be used, but it will be tossed in the butter mixture and served on toasted buns. Either way that you make it they are amazing to say the least.
ANY ADDITIONS?
I’m always up for a new flavor or way of doing things.
- Lemon zest – adds bright, citrusy flavor and makes the sandwich pop
- Celery – finely diced for a fresh, classic crunch
- Fresh dill – a summery herb that pairs well with seafood
- Old Bay seasoning – adds a hint of spice and coastal flavor
- Chives – for a mild onion taste and pretty green garnish
- Pickled red onions – for tang and a splash of color
- Crisp lettuce – like Boston or butter lettuce for a refreshing base
- Paprika – just a sprinkle for smoky depth
- Hot sauce – a few drops for a spicy lobster roll recipe
ANY SUBSTITUTIONS?
Feel free to make adjustments. Cooking is all about experimenting.
- Greek yogurt instead of mayo – for a lighter, tangier dressing
- Lime juice instead of lemon juice – if you’re out of lemons
- Shallots instead of scallions – for a mild, sweet onion flavor
- Lobster tail meat instead of claw and knuckle – if that’s what you have on hand
- Butter lettuce leaves instead of hot dog buns – for a low-carb lobster roll recipe
- Garlic aioli instead of plain mayo – adds garlic punch and extra richness

HOW TO STORE:
REFRIGERATOR: To store this recipe your best bet is to store any unused lobster mixture and not the assembled rolls. Place mixture in an airtight container in the refrigerator where it should keep for up to 4 days.
When you are ready to assemble this Lobster Roll Recipe you will just need to grill your buns and then add chilled lobster mixture.
DANA’S TIPS AND TRICKS:
- Pre-packaged claw and knuckle can be purchased meat at the grocery store or at a fish market.
- We like to use split-top hot dog buns as they hold the mixture better.
- If you want this creamier brush more mayonnaise onto the bun before adding your lobster.
- This is the basic lobster roll recipe. You can add more ingredients to your liking.
- The dressing for this is very light to let the lobster flavor be the main star. You absolutely do not want to over dress this.
