A fun treat, these Cookie Dough Truffles are coated in chocolate and are a super tasty dessert. Great for gift giving and munching on, these are full of flavor and super easy.

I’m a cookie dough lover and always have been. But give me cookie dough covered in chocolate, and you are on a whole new level, one that you will not be able to get enough of.

These Cookie Dough Truffles are safe to eat, with no raw ingredients in the cookie dough itself, and they make the perfect treat for holiday gift-giving or just making all year long.

These are our go-to treat to bring to any gathering, and I always add these to any cookie containers that we are giving away for the holidays.

No one has ever turned these down, and there is a good reason behind it. There is just something about cookie dough that brings back so many memories of being a kid.

The only difference this time is that it’s heat-treated and safe to eat, and they are covered in chocolate, with more chocolate chips inside. Can you really get any better?

WHY THIS RECIPE WORKS:

INGREDIENTS NEEDED (FULL RECIPE BELOW):

Unsalted butter
Light brown sugar packed
Vanilla extract
Salt
All-purpose flour
Milk
Milk chocolate chips or any flavor chocolate you prefer, divided

Ingredients needed to make Cookie Dough Truffles.

HOW TO MAKE COOKIE DOUGH TRUFFLES:

  1. Preheat the oven to 350°F. Line a sheet tray with parchment paper. Add the flour in a single layer and bake for 5 minutes. Take out of the oven and allow to come to room temperature.
  2. With a hand mixer, cream the butter and brown sugar. 
  3. Add the vanilla and salt and mix to combine.
  4. Add in the flour and mix until you get a crumbly texture.
  5. Add the milk and mix. Add in ¾ cup of the chocolate chips and fold in with a spoon or spatula.
  6. Take a tablespoonful of the cookie dough and roll into balls, placing them on a tray covered in wax or parchment paper. Place in the freezer for 2 hours or overnight.
  7. Melt the remaining chocolate chips in a microwave safe container. Microwave in batches of 20 seconds and stir with a spoon until melted.
  8. Take out the dough balls and place them one at a time into the melted chocolate. Get them coated in the chocolate and using a fork, take it out, tapping the excess chocolate off on the side of the bowl. Place on the wax or parchment paper. Continue until all the dough balls are coated.
  9. Place any remaining chocolate into a piping bag or plastic bag with the tip cut off and drizzle the tops of the truffles with more chocolate.
  10. Place back in the freezer for 15 minutes until the chocolate hardens. Transfer truffles into an airtight container and store in the refrigerator until ready to serve.

WHAT KIND OF CHOCOLATE IS BEST TO USE?

We like to use semi-sweet chocolate chips for this recipe, but you can use any of your favorite chocolate, like semi-sweet or dark.

You can also use chocolate baking bars, candy melts, or even almond bark for these.

CAN I USE OTHER EXTRACTS?

Absolutely, this is a great base recipe that will work with various flavors. Some of our other favorite extracts that we have used in this recipe include: almond, strawberry, and orange.

CAN OTHER MIX-INS BE ADDED?

Yes, since like I said, this is a great base recipe you can really mix in what you would like. Some of our other favorite mix-ins include:

  1. Sprinkles
  2. Chopped nuts
  3. Chopped candy
  4. Other chocolate chips
  5. Cinnamon chips
  6. Peanut butter chips
  7. Chopped up cookies

HOW TO STORE:

These can be stored in an airtight container in the refrigerator, where they will keep for up to one week.

They can also be frozen, place in a freezer container, and they will keep for up to 3 months.

To defrost, remove to the refrigerator overnight until thawed.

TIPS AND TRICKS:

  • Make sure you heat treat your flour before making these, this will bake out any bacteria in the flour itself making these safe to eat.

    Hey,
    Just after I’ve read the name and I felt in love already!! Chocolate chip cookie.. Feel I should made these with my friends this Christmas. ‘3 Cups milk chocolate chips (or any flavor chocolate you prefer)’ – I would try some white chocolate they should look amazing.
