Christmas has to be one of my favorite times of year. All the fun colors, all the lights, the smells, the Christmas tree. There is nothing about Christmas I don’t like.
One of my favorite this about this time of year are these Holiday Oreo Truffles. They are full of flavor and color and that is one of my favorite things about these.
Not to mention that they are easy to make, and we make them every single year and we love to give them as gifts, I’m one of those cookie exchangers.
Every single time, if they haven’t received these Oreo Truffles before they think they are the normal truffle then boom they take a bite and bursts of color.
I mean how fun are these? They are just really festive and that is what I love about them. I love all sorts of different truffles but these are one of my favorite.
Some of of my favorite holiday sweets that we have on our site includes Chocolate Peppermint Cake, Christmas Tree Cookies and Reindeer Chow Muddy Buddies.
Why this recipe works:
- With only 6 ingredients that you can easily find in your pantry and refrigerator them are easy to come together.
- You can easily double or triple these to serve more people or include in holiday gift baskets.
- They can easily be made ahead of time and stored for later!
These really are just a super fun recipe and the kids absolutely love these. They are one of the treats that they always gravitate towards at our holiday gatherings.
I’m not sure if it’s because the Oreos, chocolate or fun colors, but I just will take it as a win that they want them all (not to mention the adults go crazy for these too).
How to make Holiday Oreo Truffles:
- Place the Oreos in a food processor and process until crumbs are formed.
- Add the cream cheese and process until fully combined.
- Separate the mixture into three separate bowls. Color one bowl with green food coloring. Color another bowl with red food coloring. Leave the last bowl as is.
- Line a sheet tray with parchment paper.
- Taking a 1 tablespoon cookie scoop, going from color to color, add a little bit of the filling mixture until you fill-up the cookie scoop.
- Roll into a ball and place on the parchment paper, repeat with the remaining filling.
- Place the sheet tray in the freezer for 3 hours or up to overnight so the balls freeze completely.
- Melt the almond bark per the directions on the package. I like to do this step in batches, pull out 4 of the frozen cookie balls and dip them one by one into the melted almond bark so it’s fully coated.
- Let any excess drip off and place it on another parchment-lined cookie sheet. Immediately top it with the M&M’s, repeat until they are all done. Serve immediately!
See that isn’t so hard is it? I would think not! I love the marbling the inside of the truffles have, it is so fun to make ones like that, it’s just the creativity that really get me this time of year.
What kind of chocolate should I use?
Or these Holiday Oreo Truffles we used almond bark, but you can also use candiquik, melting wafers or even some high quality white chocolate chips.
I like to use the white chocolate flavor because they go best with the Golden Oreos themselves and that is what we have stuck to with this recipe, but you could try regular chocolate too.
How to store:
These will last in the refrigerator for up to one month properly stored, we usually put into an airtight container and layer it with parchment paper and stack them they should last up to 1 month in the refrigerator.
They can also be frozen! Again you should store in an airtight container such as a ziplock bag or a Tupperware container, they should last up to 4 months in the freezer.
To defrost just let them sit in the refrigerator overnight to thaw out. They will be ok sitting out for a few hours, but if you are giving them to guests I always tag them for refirgeration.
Aren’t these Oreo Truffles just so fun, and now that you’ve gotten this far, seem pretty easy to make? I’m going to say yes! I really hope they grace your dessert table.
Tips and Tricks:
- We like to top these with mini holiday M&M’s but you can top with other things like sprinkles, crushed up Oreo cookies, etc.
- These need to chill in the freezer for at least 3 hours, we want them hard so they will not melt or soften in the dipping process.
- It is easier to do these in batches, take some out of your freezer at once and dip, then repeat, this ensures the balls stay frozen through the process.
- The finished Oreo Truffles can be frozen, see my tips above.
- We like to use almond bark but different white chocolate will work fine as well, again see my tips above on that.
These Holiday Oreo Balls are a fun recipe to make up with the kids, and it is amazing that they are no bake so it’s a perfect beginner recipe for them learn.
I always find it important to have kids help in the kitchen when they can because it teaches them life skills and we apparently are in the kitchen more during the holiday season than ever.
