Chick-Fil-A is one of my all-time favorite fast-food chains; I say that term loosely because of the quality of ingredients, I don’t really consider it fast food. And, Chick-Fil-A Honey Roasted BBQ Sauce just happens to be one of my favorite sauces they have to offer.

So, you know that means I have to try and recreate it for myself at home… it’s what I do! Let me tell you, this is one delicious sauce that is almost spot on to the real deal.

When you first try it, I have to admit your taste buds might be a little confused. What kind of sauce is it exactly?

It’s an easy recipe that has a smoky flavor, but it’s not really a bbq sauce recipe. It’s as if Chick-Fil-A sauce (their classic chick-fil a sauce) had a baby with bbq to make a totally new unique secret sauce that you want to put on everything.

BUT, you have to ask for this sauce if you want it. It usually comes with the grilled chicken club sandwich (which is also my favorite sandwich there), and it comes in little packets, not the little cups like their other sauces do.

So it’s kind of like… if you know, you know! That sweet and tangy flavor is just out of this World, and paired with the smoky aspect of it, you can’t get this combination of flavors with other sauces.

A creamy, bbq-y, tangy sauce, once your try this Chick-Fil-A Honey Roasted BBQ Sauce recipe, you will keep it stocked up in your fridge at all times, just like we do!

FREQUENTLY ASKED QUESTIONS ABOUT THIS RECIPE:

WHAT TO SERVE THIS WITH?

It goes very well on both sandwiches and as a dip. Here are some suggestions for dipping:

  • French fries – I prefer waffles fries
  • Chicken nuggets
  • Chicken tenders
  • Fried chicken – any fried chicken, just trust me on this!
  • Fried shrimp
  • Zucchini fries
  • With fresh vegetables on a crudité platter – so good!

It also goes good on sandwiches, of course, on chicken sandwiches it is amazing, but I’ve also tried it on burgers and WOW!!

WHAT KIND OF BARBECUE SAUCE IS THE BEST TO USE?

It must be a sweet sauce like bbq with brown sugar in it or a honey bbq sauce. This will help enhance the sweet flavor in the sauce.

IS CHICK FIL A SAUCE THE SAME AS HONEY ROASTED BBQ?

A lot of people, without trying it first, assume these two sauces are the same.

And let me tell you, both are an amazing sauce. But, the honey-roasted bbq has a smokhy flavor with that hint of bbq.

To me, the original cfa sauce does not have any hint of bbq sauce, it has more notes of honey mustard to me.

ARE THERE ANY SUBSTITUTIONS?

Yes, there are some subs for ingredients, but keep in mind it may not be as close to the original if you have to switch things out.

In place of mayonnaise, you can use light mayo or miracle whip.

Instead of lemon juice, use white vinegar or apple cider vinegar.

Dijon mustard can be replaced with yellow mustard.

IS THERE ANYTHING I CAN ADD?

Absolutely, take note that it will drift away from being a copycat recipe but, you can add more ingredients if desired.

  • A tsp garlic powder, onion powder, or black pepper will kick up the flavor
  • Sour cream will make it even more creamy
  • Add a little honey mustard sauce for extra zing
  • Buffalo sauce for a little heat or sriracha sauce
  • Amp up the smokiness with hickory liquid smoke flavoring, a little goes a long way!

HOW TO STORE:

Store leftover honey-roasted bbq sauce in the fridge in an airtight container for up to 1 week.

I do not suggest freezing.

DANA’S TIPS AND TRICKS:

  • This makes about 1 & 1/2 cups, but you can easily double it to feed more or halve the recipe as needed.
  • I do not suggest freezing.
  • See my substitution suggestions above.

  2. 5 stars
    Tasty

  3. I really can’t think of a mayo substitute, so sorry!

  4. Question rather than a rating; could I get away with making this without mayo? Or is there something I could replace it with that isn’t creamy and gross? (I’m really not fond of mayo and mayo-like things)
