DO I HAVE TO USE CINNAMON SWIRL BREAD?
No, you do not. We find that it gives a great extra cinnamon flavor to this recipe but if you do not like the bread or cannot find it you do not have to use it.
You can use any regular sandwich bread for this kind, white or wheat would be my other two suggestions for this. If you use any other kind, it might hinder the taste of this recipe.
CAN I USE MY OWN APPLE PIE FILLING?
Absolutely, if you like to make your own homemade the better! We use canned for this recipe for the ease but are not against using homemade at all.
You can also use cinnamon applesauce in a pinch. This might be runnier, but it will still work for this recipe.
HOW TO STORE:
I recommend storing any extra in an airtight container in the refrigerator where they will keep for up to 3-4 days.
These are definitely best when eaten right away! Plus that won’t be hard since they are so good!
TIPS AND TRICKS:
- You do not have to use cinnamon swirl bread for this recipe, you can use regular white or wheat.
- Feel free to make your own homemade apple pie filling.
- Cinnamon applesauce can be used in a pinch for this recipe.
- Easily double this batch, trust me you will want to!
- These are great served with a tasty caramel sauce, or even a powdered sugar and milk glaze.

I’ve made these 3 times, they are delicious and always a big hit, but it took me much longer than the 10 minutes prep time stated in the recipe. I’d like to make them for a breakfast party, has anybody made them ahead and frozen them?
Thanks

Dana, I just made them and instead of staying firm and keeping their cigar shape, they flattened out during baking. Can you troubleshoot this problem?

Me again.. I just re-watched your video to see if I could find any hint of what I did wrong, and I’m stumped. I did everything exactly as you did in the video. Hope you can think of something! Barbara

I really have no idea! Maybe the pieces of bread were too small or you didn’t roll them tight enough? Also, did you not put them seam side down? Those are the only things I can think of.

Could you use fresh apples in place of pie filling?
Lori Putnam says
LOVE this idea, but can’t stand apple pie. Could I just use cream cheese on the inside, and keep cinnamon flavor? Or…well, what would be a good replacement for the apple pie filling? Ideas, anyone? Thanks!
Dana DeVolk says
Yes you can definitely just use cream cheese. Any filling would be good, blueberry, peach, anything you like with cinnamon.

I’m not a fan of apple pie so I used a homemade double raspberry jam instead. They were AMAZING. Thank you for this recipe… I am going to use all different fruits and jams next time. I’m making a tray of them for the holidays. Thank you!!
