FREQUENTLY ASKED QUESTIONS ABOUT THIS RECIPE:
CAN I USE A DIFFERENT GLAZE?
Absolutely! While the lemon powdered sugar glaze is just plain delicious, feel free to get creative.
Maybe try a homemade cream cheese frosting next time? Cream cheese glaze, powdered sugar glaze, or even just a dusting of powdered sugar would be great too.
CAN I REHEAT THESE IN THE AIR FRYER?
Sure can! Although, you’ll need to make sure you haven’t put the glaze on them yet.
Just pop any leftover cinnamon rolls in the air fryer for about 3-4 minutes at a lower temperature, and they’ll be warm and delicious again.
Actually, reheating things is one of my favorite uses for my air fryer.
WHY DIDN’T MY DOUGH RISE?
Dough can be a bit moody. Make sure your yeast is fresh. That’s usually the first place I go when my dough struggles to rise.
Also, make sure that it has been left in a warm place. Cold environments can prevent the dough from rising.
ANY ADDITIONS?
Oh, there are all kinds of options here!
- Chopped nuts (like pecans or walnuts) for some crunch.
- Raisins or dried cranberries.
- A sprinkle of nutmeg for extra warmth.
- Drizzle of caramel sauce.
- Orange zest in your glaze for a citrusy twist.
- Mini chocolate chips because why not?
- Coconut flakes for a tropical touch.
- Swap the lemon juice for orange juice in the glaze.
- Add a touch of vanilla extract.
- Blueberries or apple chunks for a fruity twist.
ANY SUBSTITUTIONS?
Sure thing! Just keep in mind that some ingredients will change the texture of the rolls.
- Almond milk or soy milk for dairy-free.
- Gluten-free flour to cater to gluten sensitivities.
- Coconut sugar or maple syrup instead of brown sugar for a natural sweetness.
- Egg substitutes like flaxseed for vegan options.
- Cacao powder for a chocolatey dough.
HOW TO STORE:
Room Temp: Keep in an airtight container and enjoy within 2-3 days for best results.
Or, store in the fridge for up to 1 week. If I’m honest, mine don’t usually make it to the fridge, haha!
Freezer: Place in a single layer in an air-tight container. They’re a great option for a quick breakfast treat later! Baking ahead is always a good idea.
DANA’S TIPS AND TRICKS:
- Use parchment paper or aluminum foil at the bottom of the basket for easier clean-up.
- Don’t overcrowd the air fryer basket. Giving them a little space ensures even cooking.
- Warm your milk slightly before adding the yeast. It helps activate it faster!
- For a more caramelized filling, increase the brown sugar a tad.
- If using a different brand of air fryer, monitor the cooking time closely.
- After mixing your dough, let it sit in a warm, cozy spot in your kitchen. This helps with the rising.
