It’s made with a simple marinade that brings out the best flavor in the beef and is grilled at high heat to lock in all that goodness.

Whether you’re using a gas grill or a charcoal grill, this method works great. The key is getting your grill hot and ready before the steak hits the grill grates.

You’ll also want to let your steak come to room temperature before grilling so it cooks evenly. And don’t forget a digital meat thermometer or instant-read thermometer to check the internal temperature.

This helps you get that perfect steak every time, no matter your preferred level of doneness—whether it’s medium-rare steak, medium doneness, or well-done.

I’ve made this steak for weekend BBQs, weeknight meals, and even meal prep. It’s tender, full of savory flavor, and always a hit with the whole family.

This juicy, flavorful Barbeque Sirloin Steak is calling your name. Get the grill ready!

HOW TO MAKE BARBEQUE SIRLOIN STEAK:

Marinate the Steaks (3 Hours or Overnight)

  1. Season both sides of the sirloin steaks with black pepper, brown sugar, Montreal steak seasoning, and salt.
  2. Rub the seasoning into the meat with your hands to ensure even coverage.
  3. Sprinkle half of the Worcestershire sauce on one side of the steak, flip, and add the remaining sauce.
  4. Cover the steaks with plastic wrap and refrigerate for at least 3 hours or overnight for the best flavor.

2. Prepare the Grill

  1. Take the steaks out of the fridge about 30 minutes before grilling. This allows them to come to room temperature, ensuring even cooking.
  2. Preheat your grill (or cast-iron skillet) to high heat (about 450°F to 500°F).

3. Grill the Steaks

  1. Place the steaks on the hot grill and cook for 4 minutes per side, flipping once.
    • For medium-rare: Aim for an internal temperature of 130-135°F.
    • For medium: Aim for 140-145°F.
    • For medium-well: Aim for 150-155°F.
    • For well-done: Aim for 160°F and above.
  2. Add butter: About 1 minute before removing the steaks, place ½ tablespoon of butter on top of each steak and let it melt into the meat.

4. Rest and Serve

  1. Remove the steaks from the grill and let them rest for 5-10 minutes before slicing. This helps retain the juices.
  2. Garnish with chopped fresh parsley if desired.
  3. Slice against the grain and serve!

FAQ: FREQUENTLY ASKED QUESTIONS ABOUT THIS RECIPE:

Let the steak marinate for at least 3 hours. For the best flavor, marinate it overnight in the fridge in its original packaging or a zip-top bag. I would say 12 hours at the most, though.

Yes! This marinade works well with ribeye steaks, strip steak, filet mignon, or beef sirloin. Just adjust the cooking time based on the thickness of your steak. Marinating meat is a skill and the better you get at it, the more you want to do it!

Definitely! You can marinate the steak and keep it in the fridge overnight or freeze it for meal prep. Just remove excess air from the bag before freezing to keep it fresh.

Yep! Keep in conservative, or go crazy. It’s entirely up to you.

  • A little olive oil in the marinade
  • Add crushed garlic
  • Mix in fresh rosemary or thyme
  • Sprinkle red pepper flakes
  • Add smoked paprika for depth
  • Top with grilled onions
  • Blue cheese crumbles on top
  • Drizzle with steak sauce
  • Add a touch of mustard to the marinade
  • Sprinkle with flaky sea salt before serving

Try out different sauces in place of worcestershire. There are so many ways to do this!

  • Use sea salt or table salt instead of kosher
  • Swap Worcestershire for soy sauce or balsamic vinegar
  • Replace brown sugar with honey or maple syrup
  • Try dry rubs instead of a marinade
  • Use sirloin tip or top sirloin steaks if needed
  • Substitute vegan butter for a dairy-free version

ROOM TEMPERATURE: Don’t leave the steak out for more than 2 hours. After that, bacteria can grow and make it unsafe to eat.

REFRIGERATOR: Wrap leftover steak in foil or place it in an airtight container. Store it in the fridge for 3 to 4 days.

FREEZER: Freeze cooked or marinated steak in a zip-top bag, pressing out excess air. It’ll keep for up to 3 months. Thaw it in the fridge overnight before reheating or cooking.

DANA’S TIPS AND TRICKS:

  • Use a paper towel to pat your steaks dry before grilling to help get a good sear.
  • Let steaks come to room temperature for about 30 minutes before grilling.
  • Use a grill brush to clean your grill grates before cooking for the best results.
  • Check the temperature of the steak with a thermometer for the final temperature.
  • Let the steak rest for 10-15 minutes before slicing to keep it juicy.
  • Slice against the grain for a more tender bite every time.
