FAQ: FREQUENTLY ASKED QUESTIONS ABOUT THIS RECIPE:
WHAT IS A LONDON BROIL?
London broil refers to both a cooking method and the name of a dish.
It usually uses top round steak or another tougher cut of meat that’s marinated and grilled or broiled, then sliced thin.
The flavors in this marinade are typically included in a London Broil, though there are plenty of variations out there!
WHAT KIND OF HERBS ARE THE BEST TO USE?
Fresh rosemary and thyme are classic choices for this marinade.
But you can also use parsley, oregano, or Italian seasoning if that’s what you have.
Heck, you might change the flavor a lot, but there are plenty of additions and substitutions down below that might peak your interest!

ANY ADDITIONS?
You are SOOO going to love this marinade. I can taste it already!
- A splash of soy sauce for a deeper savory flavor
- Lemon zest for a pop of brightness
- Cracked black pepper on top before grilling
- Sliced onions in the marinade
- Garlic butter drizzled on after grilling
- Sprinkle of red pepper flakes before serving
- Lemon juice mixed into the marinade
- Fresh parsley or chives for garnish
- Dash of apple cider vinegar
- A spoonful of brown sugar for extra sweetness
ANY SUBSTITUTIONS?
Yes! Let me know in the comments how your own steak turns out. I love hearing from you!
- Soy sauce instead of Worcestershire sauce
- Apple cider vinegar or red wine vinegar instead of balsamic vinegar
- Brown sugar instead of honey
- Dried herbs instead of fresh herbs (use less since they’re stronger)
- Vegetable oil instead of olive oil if grilling
- Flank steak or skirt steak instead of London broil

HOW TO STORE:
ROOM TEMPERATURE: This dish should not sit out for more than 2 hours.
Always refrigerate it quickly to keep it safe.
REFRIGERATOR: Store cooked London broil in an airtight container for up to 3 days.
Reheat in a pan or microwave for a quick meal.
FREEZER: You can freeze both the raw marinated steak and cooked leftovers.
Use a freezer bag and enjoy within 2 months.
Let it thaw in the fridge before cooking or reheating.
DANA’S TIPS AND TRICKS:
- Always slice the steak against the grain for tender pieces.
- Use a meat thermometer to check doneness. Medium-rare is 130–135°F.
- Marinate the meat overnight if you have time—it adds more depth of flavor.
- Use a broiler pan or outdoor grill for even cooking.
- Let the steak rest 10–15 minutes before slicing. This helps keep it juicy.
- For extra flavor, save a little of the marinade before adding it to the raw meat and heat it in a small saucepan to drizzle over the cooked steak.
This London Broil Marinade is a simple way to turn an affordable cut of beef into a tender, flavorful steak dinner.
With just a few pantry ingredients and a little time to marinate, you’ll have a meal that tastes like it came from your favorite steakhouse.
