Why This Recipe Works
Click to see the technique science
- Frozen mango does double duty. It blends into a thick, frosty slush and adds all the sweet mango flavor, so you do not need any sugary mango puree or mix.
- Fresh lime keeps it balanced. Real lime juice cuts the sweetness of the mango and tequila so the margarita tastes bright instead of cloying.
- The chili lime rim is everything. A mix of margarita salt and Tajin gives every sip a sweet, salty, spicy edge that makes this drink taste like it came from your favorite cantina.
- Ready in five minutes. Everything goes in the blender at once, so you can go from craving to cocktail in the time it takes to salt the rim.
- Easy to batch. The recipe scales up beautifully for a crowd, just multiply and blend in batches for an instant party pitcher.
- Totally customizable. Make it boozy, light, or virgin, and swap in other frozen fruit, this base recipe takes to almost anything.

Key Ingredients

A short list of simple ingredients blends into this frosty mango margarita.
- Frozen mango: The star that makes this margarita thick, frosty, and naturally sweet. Frozen fruit blends into a perfect slush with no ice needed to bulk it up.
- White tequila: A silver or blanco tequila keeps the flavor clean and bright so the mango shines. Use a good quality one you would happily sip.
- Orange liqueur: A splash of Cointreau or triple sec adds that classic margarita depth and a hint of citrus.
- Fresh lime juice: The tangy backbone that balances the sweet mango. Fresh squeezed makes a real difference.
- Margarita salt and Tajin: Mixed together for that irresistible chili lime rim, the same sweet heat you get on our Mexican street corn.

Recipe Tips & Tricks
- Use frozen mango, not fresh, so the margarita blends up thick and frosty without watering it down.
- Juice the lime first, then use that same cut lime to wet the rim before dipping it in the salt.
- Mix the rim salt and Tajin in a shallow dish wider than your glass for the easiest, prettiest coat.
- Blend on high and add liquid a splash at a time if it stalls, so you keep that slushy texture.
- Chill your glass in the freezer beforehand to keep the frozen margarita frosty longer.
- Taste and adjust, adding a little sugar if your mango is tart or more lime if it is too sweet.

To make a big batch, multiply the recipe and blend in rounds, keeping the finished margaritas in a pitcher in the freezer until you are ready to pour and rim the glasses. You can also blend the base ahead, freeze it, and re-blend with a splash of tequila to loosen it up right before serving. However you pour it, this frosty mango margarita is guaranteed to be the first drink to disappear.

Mango Margarita FAQs
A white, silver, or blanco tequila is the classic choice because its clean flavor lets the mango and lime shine. Use a 100 percent agave tequila you would happily sip on its own, and skip the gold tequila here, which can taste harsher in a fruity frozen drink.
Absolutely. Just leave out the tequila and orange liqueur and add a splash of orange juice and a little extra lime. You will still get that thick, frosty, chili lime rimmed mocktail that everyone can enjoy.
Frozen mango is key for a frozen margarita. It blends into a thick slush without watering the drink down. If you only have fresh mango, freeze the chunks solid first, or use fresh mango plus extra ice for a similar texture.
Multiply the recipe by the number of servings you need and blend in batches, since most blenders cannot handle more than four at once. Keep the blended margaritas in a pitcher in the freezer and rim the glasses just before serving so the salt stays crisp.
This one uses a mix of margarita salt and Tajin, a chili lime seasoning, for a sweet, salty, and spicy rim. You can use plain margarita salt, a sugar and Tajin mix for something sweeter, or just chili powder and salt if that is what you have.
Yes. Add more fresh lime juice to cut the sweetness, or a splash of water or club soda to lighten the drink. To make it less boozy, reduce the tequila to one ounce and add a little more mango and lime to keep the flavor balanced.
