If you are looking for a delicious fruity cocktail to cool down this spring and summer you need to try this Passion Fruit Margarita! Easy, tasty, and thirst-quenching.
Margaritas have always been one of my favorite drink recipes. Whenever we go out, it’s always me ordering a Margarita for some reason. I have just always loved them, and this passion fruit margarita is no exception.
Passion Fruit, if you have never tried it, has amazing flavor and really complements this Margarita Recipe super well. We try to make this a few times a year because it is so so good.
It has some of the best flavors I think I’ve had in a drink. Fresh fruit and other fresh ingredients really do a lot for it. All those tropical flavors are packed in there and thrown together in a short period of time!
Sometimes ripe passion fruit is hard to get ahold of, but that has never stopped us from hunting it down. It really depends on where you live in the country.
Here in Florida, we can easily access it, so that is why we make it more often than any other margarita out there. Even my husband loves this one!
It makes a nice big batch that you can serve to a lot of people or just keep around for a bit to sip on—trust me, you are going to want to make this recipe!
This easy passion fruit margarita is a summer favorite in our house. After the first sip, I know it will be yours as well!
Some of my other favorite drink recipes we have on the site include Raspberry Mojitos, Melon Prosecco Cocktails, and Blueberry Lemonade Cocktail.
WHY THIS RECIPE WORKS:
- With a variety of alcohol and natural sweeteners, it is not overpowering.
- You can double the batch to add more.
- You can use frozen or fresh passion fruit pulp for this recipe.
INGREDIENTS NEEDED (SCROLL TO THE BOTTOM OF THIS POST FOR THE FULL RECIPE CARD):
- Passion fruit pulp
- silver Tequila
- Cointreau
- Lime juice
- Honey
- Ice
- Rimming salt
- Lime slices, jalapeño slices, mint or basil
Aren’t those super easy ingredients? I love that we can use frozen Passion Fruit because, depending on the time of year, fresh is not always available.
That is why we like to make this drink in the spring and summertime because we are almost guaranteed to have them around, and it is a great cocktail to cool down with.
HOW TO MAKE PASSION FRUIT MARGARITA:
- In a pitcher stir together the passion fruit pulp, tequila, Cointreau, lime juice, and honey until everything is well incorporated.
- Fill the pitcher with ice and garnish with lime slices.
- Once you are ready to serve, rub a lime wedge over the edge of the glass and dip into the rimming salt.
- Pour or spoon the Passion Fruit Margaritas and garnish with lime slices, jalapeños, or fresh herbs.
Look at how easy this is to put together, we like to mix it in one big pitcher as it makes about 6 margaritas on its own so putting it all together in one is so much easier.
That way you can pour or spoon your desired amount into your cocktail glasses adding as much or as little fruit as you’d like in it. So you can pretty much completely customize your drink!
FREQUENTLY ASKED QUESTIONS ABOUT THIS RECIPE:
WHAT DO I GARNISH THIS WITH?
We like to garnish each of our margaritas with lime slices, jalapeños, or fresh herbs like mint or basil.
The flavors of all of those really work with this Passion Fruit Cocktail as a whole.
WHAT IS PASSION FRUIT?
According to Wikipedia, Passion fruits are round or oval fruits that can be yellow, red, purple, or green. Their juicy edible center is composed of a large number of seeds.
They kind of remind me of pomegranates in the edible seeds part, but the flavor is totally different and absolutely amazing.
ANY ADDITIONS?
That salt on the rim of your glass really does a lot for the flavor of this delicious cocktail. No reason not to add even more tropical fruit!
- Add a splash of orange juice for a hint of citrus sweetness.
- Incorporate slices of ripe mango for a tropical twist.
- Garnish with a lime wheel and a sprig of cilantro for an aromatic touch.
- Include a dash of chili powder on the salt rim for a spicy kick.
- Splash in some sparkling water for a fizzy variation.
- Mix in a bit of passion fruit syrup for extra passion fruit flavor and sweetness.
- Stir in a few tablespoons of pomegranate juice for color and tanginess.
- Garnish with a pineapple slice for a vacation vibe.
- Add a few drops of prickly pear syrup for a unique and colorful twist.
ANY SUBSTITUTIONS?
Try out different prepared glasses if you don’t have the margarita ones. Whatever you serve this in you’ll get a five star rating with any crowd!
- Swap Cointreau for triple sec or Grand Marnier as alternative orange liqueurs.
- Use agave nectar instead of honey for a smoother blend with tequila.
- Replace fresh lime juice with bottled lime juice in a pinch, though fresh is preferred for the best taste.
- Opt for blanco, silver, or reposado tequila based on your preference for a lighter or more aged flavor profile.
- For a non-alcoholic version, substitute tequila and orange liqueur with non-alcoholic spirits or simply increase the passion fruit juice and add sparkling water.
- If fresh pulp is unavailable, passion fruit nectar or passion fruit purée can be used as a substitute, adjusting the sweetness as necessary.
HOW TO STORE:
This is best served fresh, but you can make it ahead of time. Make the recipe as directed and then cover with plastic wrap and refrigerate.
Add ice just before serving.
Store leftovers for up to 3 days.
DANA’S TIPS AND TRICKS:
- There are a variety of colors of passion fruit, you can use any one of those for your passion fruit puree.
- You can swap out the honey in this recipe for agave if you like.
- Switch out the lime slice for a lemon instead.
- Rather than a passionfruit version, make some watermelon margaritas!
- Use fresh or bottled lemon juice, whatever you have on hand.
- Double this fruity margarita recipe to serve more people, the serves 6 margaritas.
- Making this in a larger pitcher is easier to combine everything at once rather than to make drink by drink, if you want less just cut the recipe in half.
- You can use fresh passion fruit pulp or the frozen one, you can find it at most supermarkets on the frozen aisle (Goya has one!).
This is all about simple ingredients and big flavor. If you want a fun, fruity, and tasty cocktail to drink this spring and summer, you have to whip up my perfect Passion Fruit Margarita. It’ll be your new favorite cocktail
