I love pulled pork, it is so good! We make it a lot all year round but especially during the summer since it is the perfect picnic food whether your making sandwiches, using it in, or on things.
I’m a fan of making my pork in the crock pot I love cooking low and slow and getting that perfect shred. So this Crock Pot Pulled Pork is one of my absolute favorite recipes ever.
It is super easy with minimal work to be done, and that my friends is why I love my crock pot! It does all the work for you. All you need to do is rub your pork and slice up some onions and you’re good to go!
The rub on this Crock Pot Pulled Pork is one of my favorite flavor concoctions. I feel that it works with the pork really well and gives it a great flavor.
Serve it with my Homemade BBQ Sauce and you are good to go in any way, shape, or form! Trust me, once you try this recipe you will want to continue making it!

WHY THIS RECIPE WORKS:
- With minimal pantry staple ingredients this is ready to go in the slow cooker fast.
- You can use the rub that I have provided or your own.
- This is such a versatile recipe that it can be served in or on various things.
INGREDIENTS NEEDED (FULL RECIPE BELOW):
Onion
Pork shoulder
Garlic powder
Onion powder
Brown sugar
Smoked paprika
Salt
Pepper
HOW TO MAKE CROCK POT PULLED PORK:
- Place the sliced onions in the bottom of the slow cooker. Pat the pork down with paper towels, set it aside.
- In a small bowl, mix together the garlic powder, onion powder, brown sugar, paprika, salt, and pepper. Rub the seasoning all over the pork, use it all.
- Place the pork on top of the onions, cover, and cook on low for 8 hours or until the internal temperature reaches 200°F or the meat easily shreds with a fork.
- Take the pork out and remove any bones and excess fat, shred the meat and add it back to the slow cooker to mix with the cooked onions and liquid. Now you can use the pork as is on sandwiches with some bbq sauce or in any recipes called for pulled pork.
See, I told you that this Crock Pot Pulled Pork was easy! And look at those perfect shreds! I mean this is exactly why I love cooking in the slow cooker.
Low and slow really gives this pork the best texture ever, not to mention the flavor! I really like the rub that we have, it’s simple and delicious and just is all around a good run for any pork dishes!
WHAT KIND OF PORK SHOULD I USE?
Pork shoulder is the most popular cut of meat when it comes to pulled pork. Which then is broken down into two cuts usually, the Boston Butt and the Picnic Roast.
For this recipe, we used the Boston Butt and that is what I really like to use for my Crock Pot Pulled Pork recipes, and usually don’t stray from that. But, it is totally up to your preference which cut of the pork shoulder you want to use!
HOW TO STORE:
This Crock Pot Pulled Pork Recipe can be stored in the refrigerator in an airtight container or ziptop bag for up to 3-4 days.
This can also be frozen, to do that, cool and then cool any leftovers in the refrigerator.
Place in a freezer bag (squeezing out as much air as you can) or freezer-safe storage container and it will keep for up to 6 months.
Let defrost in the refrigerator before reheating in the microwave or in the slow cooker again on low or warm settings.
TIPS AND TRICKS:
- Either portion of the pork shoulder will work the Boston butt or the picnic roast.
- This can be served in a variety of dishes, this is just a basic pulled pork recipe, do with it what you like.
- This can be frozen for later, see my tips above on how to do that.
- Use the simple rub recipe I provided or make your own or even purchased rubs will work.
- Make sure you cook this on low, the is how it will shed nice and easy, this should not be cooked on high.

I make this all the time! It’s so delicious, but I just hate separating out the bone and fat, yucky is right. I use two forks … I haven’t found an easier way to separate out the two. Anyways, I always use Taco mix, but am working to clean up my recipes so this one will be fantastic! Thank you 🙂 Heather M., http://www.RockStew.com

I see tha juices so does it need water
Dana DeVolk says
No, it makes it’s own juice. What is shown all comes off the pork when cooking.
