Key Ingredients

Here is a look at what goes into these golden Oreo cookies. A box of golden Oreos does double duty in the dough and the garnish.
- Golden Oreos: Whole golden Oreos get crushed into crumbs that flavor the dough and garnish the frosting. They are the heart of this cookie.
- Butter and Sugar: Creamed together, they give the cookies a soft, tender, rich base.
- Flour, Baking Powder, and Salt: The dry ingredients give the cookies structure and a gentle rise.
- Cream Cheese and Powdered Sugar: These make a tangy, sweet frosting that pipes into a perfect swirl, like the frosting on our golden Oreo cheesecake bars.
- Vanilla and Heavy Cream: A splash of vanilla and heavy cream make the frosting smooth, fluffy, and full of flavor.

Variations and Substitutions
These cookies are easy to make your own. Here are a few fun twists.
- Different Oreos: Swap golden Oreos for classic chocolate, birthday cake, or mint Oreos.
- Add white chocolate: Fold mini white chocolate chips into the dough for extra sweetness.
- Skip the frosting: These cookies are delicious on their own if you want a simpler treat.
- Make them smaller: Portion into 24 smaller cookies and reduce the bake time for a more snackable size.
- Flavor the frosting: Add a little almond extract or lemon zest to the cream cheese frosting.
How to Make Golden Oreo Cookies

- Place the golden Oreos in a food processor and process until they form fine crumbs.

- Stir most of the Oreo crumbs with the flour, baking powder, and salt, saving some crumbs for garnish.

- In a stand mixer, cream the butter and sugar for 3 minutes until light and fluffy.

- Beat in the eggs one at a time, add the vanilla, then mix in the dry ingredients in batches to form a thick dough.

- Portion the dough into 12 balls on a tray, cover, and chill in the fridge overnight.

- Bake at 350 degrees F for 15 to 17 minutes until puffed and dry on top, then cool completely.

- Cream the butter and cream cheese, beat in the powdered sugar, cream, and vanilla, then whip until light and fluffy.

- Pipe a swirl of frosting onto each cooled cookie and sprinkle with the reserved golden Oreo crumbs.
Recipe Tips & Tricks
- Do not skip the chill. The dough is very sticky, and chilling overnight is what makes it workable and gives the best texture.
- Space them out. These cookies spread, so bake them about 6 inches apart on the tray.
- Save crumbs for garnish. Set aside some golden Oreo crumbs before mixing so you have a pretty topping.
- Sift the powdered sugar. Sifting keeps the cream cheese frosting silky smooth and lump free.
- Cool completely before frosting. Warm cookies will melt the frosting, so let them cool fully first.
- Use a piping tip. A large round tip like a Wilton 2A gives that signature Crumbl swirl.

Golden Oreo Cookies FAQs
Yes, these Golden Oreo Cookies are a copycat of the popular Crumbl golden Oreo cookie. They feature a thick, soft vanilla cookie packed with golden Oreo crumbs and topped with a swirl of cream cheese frosting.
Yes, chilling is important. The dough is very sticky right after mixing, and an overnight chill firms it up so you can shape it and gives the cookies their thick, bakery style texture.
Store frosted golden Oreo cookies in an airtight container in the refrigerator for up to 4 days because of the cream cheese frosting. Let them sit at room temperature for a few minutes before serving for the best texture.
Yes. Freeze the unfrosted, baked cookies in an airtight container for up to 3 months, then thaw and frost when ready. You can also freeze the portioned dough balls and bake them from frozen, adding a couple of minutes.
Flat cookies usually mean the dough was too warm. Make sure to chill the dough overnight and keep it cold until baking. Using fresh baking powder and not over creaming the butter also helps them stay thick.
A whipped cream cheese frosting is the classic topping for these golden Oreo cookies. Its tangy sweetness balances the rich cookie, and it pipes into a beautiful swirl that you finish with a sprinkle of Oreo crumbs.

Notes
- Crush Oreos in a Food Processor: This is the easiest way to get fine crumbs. If you don’t have one, put them in a resealable bag and smash away with a rolling pin. Instant stress relief!
- Use Parchment Paper: Lining your sheet tray (or baking sheet) makes it easier to remove cookies and speeds up cleanup. Trust me—less dishwashing is always a win.
- Don’t Rush the Chill: The cookie dough is super sticky. Letting it rest overnight makes it much easier to handle.
- Watch the Bake Time: These cookies only need 15-17 minutes in a preheated oven at 350°F. Overbaking can lead to dry cookies, and nobody wants that.
- Frosting Magic: Use a piping bag (a zip-top bag with the corner cut off also works) to swirl on that delicious cream cheese frosting. It makes your cookies look bakery-worthy.
- Serve with a Cold Glass of Milk: Oreo cookies were made to be dunked. Enough said!
