WHY THIS RECIPE WORKS:

  1. Fast and Fun: These treats take about 5 minutes to make and 1 hour to chill. If you can’t wait that long, you can even dig in early (though they’ll be extra sticky!).
  2. Endless Options: You can add dark chocolate or white chocolate if you want a twist on the classic flavor. You can even mix in your other favorite cereals like Lucky Charms treats or monster cereal to make something truly unique.
  3. Campfire Taste Indoors: No campfire needed! The gooey marshmallows mimic that roasted feel, and the chocolate brings the delicious treat factor to the next level.

INGREDIENTS NEEDED (SCROLL TO THE BOTTOM OF THIS POST FOR THE FULL RECIPE CARD):

HOW TO MAKE CEREAL TREATS:

  1. Take 3 of the chocolate bars and chop them up into ½ inch pieces, place them on a plate.
  2. Break the remaining 3 bars into separate sections and place them on a plate. Put the plates in the fridge until later.
  3. Line a 9×13 baking dish with foil letting it overlap the sides for easy removal later and spray it with cooking spray or grease it with butter, set aside.
  4. In a large pot, melt the butter over medium-low heat.
  5. Add 8 cups of the marshmallows and stir constantly until they are melted with a wooden spoon or silicone spatula.
  6. Take the pot off the heat and stir in the vanilla.
  7. Add Golden Grahams and stir them in until coated in the melted marshmallows.
  8. Add the remaining marshmallows and chopped chocolate, stir until combined.
  9. Pour the mixture into the prepared baking dish and press it down lightly to form an even top.
  10. Gently press in the remaining chocolate pieces.
  11. Let it sit for about an hour to set and cool before taking the bars out by lifting the foil out of the pan. Cut into bars and serve.

FREQUENTLY ASKED QUESTIONS ABOUT THIS RECIPE:

Yes! Crush them into smaller pieces so they blend well with the melted marshmallows.

The result might be a bit denser, but it still captures the s’mores magic.

I love milk chocolate for that classic s’mores taste, but dark chocolate or white chocolate works too.

You can also toss in some chocolate chips for pockets of melty goodness throughout your cereal mixture.

Got a favorite cereal you wanna try? Go right ahead!

  • Chocolate peanut butter bars swirl: Stir in ¼ cup peanut butter for a chocolate-peanut flavor.
  • Extra marshmallow fluff: Fold in a spoonful after turning off the heat for an even gooier texture.
  • A handful of fruity pebbles for a pop of color and fruity taste.
  • Drizzle of melted white chocolate over the top for a fancy finish.
  • Sprinkle of chopped nuts or seeds for a salty crunch (think almonds or sunflower seeds).
  • Crumbled monster cereal or any other favorite cereals you love.
  • A pinch of brown sugar if you want an extra layer of sweetness.
  • Swap the cereal with rice krispies treats base to make it a s’mores-meets-rice-krispie combo.
  • Use crushed cocoa krispies or cocoa puffs to pump up the chocolate factor.
  • A small handful of candy melts or candy pieces on top for added color and fun.

Feel free to swap things out as you wish. Here are some ideas to get you started!

  • Unsalted butter plus a small pinch of salt if you don’t have salted butter on hand.
  • If you’re on a medically restrictive diet or low carb diet, go easy on the chocolate and try a high-protein cereal to keep your blood sugar down.
  • Dark chocolate or a blend of chocolate chips if you like a richer taste and want to avoid too much sugar.
  • Add more mini marshmallows if you want them extra gooey, or use fewer if you’re trying to watch your calorie diet or daily values.
  • Peanut butter products can replace some of the butter if you’re aiming for a peanutty twist.

Room Temp:
Once the treats set and you cut them into squares, place them in an airtight container or wrap them in plastic wrap.

They’ll stay fresh for about a week.

Freezer
If you prefer a colder snack or want to keep them longer, wrap individual squares in parchment paper or store them in a freezer bag.

They can last up to two months.

Defrost at room temperature for best texture—though the cereal may lose some crispness.

DANA’S TIPS AND TRICKS:

  • Use a Large Bowl: If you melt the butter and marshmallows in a medium saucepan, you can then pour them into a large bowl of cereal.
  • Press Lightly: When forming an even layer in the square baking pan, press mixture gently so they’re not rock-hard. Over-pressing can make them too dense.
  • Nonstick Cooking Spray or Butter: Grease your hands or a spatula with a little oil or butter so the cereal doesn’t stick while you press.
  • Try Different Kinds of Cereal: Lucky charms treats, monster cereal, or even a high-protein brand can create a unique spin each time you make these.
  • Mind the Heat: Melt your marshmallows and butter on low heat or medium heat to avoid burning the bottoms.
  • Plan for Leftovers: Since they stay good at room temperature for a few days, you can pack them in lunches or share with friends.
