I absolutely adore any and all things hot chocolate, not only just the drink but in other desserts as well. This Hot Chocolate Mug Cake is super easy and so so good.

Mug Cakes are one of my favorite go-to single-serving desserts. They take minimal ingredients and they come together super fast, so when I get a hankering for something sweet, it’s always a reliable choice.

Now that the weather is cold and I really want to warm up, I get to take my favorite drink and turn it into a cake. Top it off with some whipped cream, marshmallows, and more.

This really is a fun dessert that you can make by yourself or even with the kids. Kids really enjoy this, and it is a super family-friendly recipe.

If you are short on time and are looking for a quick and easy dessert to whip up for yourself or your family, this Hot Chocolate Mug Cake has to be at the top of the list.

Some of my other favorite chocolate desserts that we have on our site include: German Chocolate Cake, Chocolate Chunk Blondies and Easy Chocolate Fudge.

HOW MANY DOES THIS RECIPE MAKE?

This recipe makes 2 mug cakes, you can easily halve the recipe to make one for your single-serving dessert as well or make one to share.

WHAT SIZE MUG DO I NEED?

For best results, we like to use a 10-12 ounce mug for this recipe. The mug cake will look like it is overflowing when it is being microwaved but that is normal.

It will deflate once it is done. This is the case for the majority of all mug cakes, so that is one reason that we like to use a larger mug for this recipe. Also to hold the garnishes.

WHAT OTHER TOPPINGS CAN I USE?

While we use quite a few toppings on this recipe which include: whipped cream, dehydrated marshmallows, chocolate sauce, and sprinkles, you do have other options. Some of those include:

  1. Marshmallow creme
  2. Caramel sauce
  3. Hot fudge sauce
  4. Vanilla sauce
  5. Ice cream

HOW TO STORE:

This recipe is best eaten right away, so I do not recommend storing.

TIPS AND TRICKS:

  • Use any of your favorite hot cocoa mixes.
  • Make sure that you use a 10-12 ounce mug.
  • This is really hot right out of the microwave so be careful.
  • The toppings are endless, see other topping suggestions above.
  • Adding the marshmallows in the center help this cake stay moist.
  • This can be cut in half to make a single serving dessert.
