INGREDIENTS NEEDED (FULL RECIPE BELOW):
Heavy whipping cream
Powdered sugar
Sour cream
Pineapple tidbits
Mandarin oranges
Maraschino cherries without stems
Sweetened shredded coconut
Mini marshmallows
HOW TO MAKE AN AMBROSIA SALAD RECIPE:
- Place the heavy cream in a large bowl with the powdered sugar. Using an electric hand mixer, whip to stiff peaks, do not overmix.
- Fold in the sour cream.
- Add the pineapple, oranges, cherries, and coconut.
- Fold everything together until combined.
- Cover with plastic wrap and chill for 1 hour.
- Add the marshmallows and fold them in, and serve immediately.
DO I HAVE TO WAIT TO ADD THE MARSHMALLOWS?
I like to add the marshmallows just before serving so they don’t dissolve too much. I like to have that marshmallow texture through the salad, but if you like them softer, you can add them in with the fruits.
WHAT OTHER FRUIT CAN I ADD?
Add any fresh or canned fruit you like! You can use a drained canned fruit cocktail as well.
Some other good canned fruits would be peaches, pears, or apricots.
Some fresh fruit options are diced apples, grapes, fresh orange segments, grapefruit segments, blueberries, raspberries, or sliced strawberries.
CAN I ADD ANYTHING ELSE TO THIS RECIPE?
This salad is also great with chopped nuts added. I love to add pecans, almonds, or macadamia nuts.
HOW TO STORE:
This can be stored in the refrigerator covered or in an airtight container where it will keep for up to 5 days. We do not recommend freezing this recipe.
