Homemade Pesto in glass jar.

I am a huge pesto lover, I could literally just eat it off the spoon that is how much we love it. It goes great in and on so many different things.

It is also so easy to blend together that we make it all the time to have on hand for many various recipes, and we use it more often than not.

This also can be kept for a lengthy period of time so it is great to make a double batch so when you run out you will have more on hand.

Also I believe that Homemade Pesto is way better than store bought by far! Plus you can put various things in it to switch it up to your flavor palate.

Ingredients needed to make Homemade Pesto.

Step by step photos on how to make Homemade Pesto.

DO I HAVE TO USE TOASTED PECANS?

I like to use pecans instead of pine nuts because I always have them on hand and they are cheaper.

Pine nuts are the traditional ingredient but any nut will work.

I highly recommend toasting the pecans or buying them pre-toasted, it brings out the nuttiness and natural oils, enhancing their flavor.

CAN I ADD OTHER SPICES/HERBS TO THIS RECIPE?

Other add-in ideas include red pepper flakes and smoked paprika for a smokey element.

Add some cilantro, oregano, or fresh chives in with the basil for a more complex herb flavor.

WHAT CAN I USE THIS RECIPE IN?

I love to serve this on pasta, add to soups and salads, use in marinades, and even as a dip for veggies. There are so many possibilities to use this, just add it to things and find your favorite use!

HOW TO STORE:

This can be stored in an airtight container or a lidded jar in the refrigerator where it will keep for up to 5 days.

You can also freeze this pesto, to do that place it in a freezer container and it will keep in the freezer for up to 9 months.

To defrost, remove to refrigerator until thawed, then use as desired.

I like to freeze any leftovers in smaller portions so I can just pop some out whenever I need them. I freeze in an ice cube tray. Once frozen solid I pop them out and transfer them to a freezer-safe container.
