A super fun Halloween idea that is not only tasty but a little spooky and a treat that you can enjoy at your holiday table for your next party.

This is one recipe that we actually enjoy all year long as we love Funnel Cakes, chocolate, and powdered sugar, they just work so well together.

Add some spiders and decorate these with the chocolate, and you turn them into a Halloween dessert that is bound to be fun, and everyone will love.

If you love Halloween and all the treats that come with it but want something just a little bit different – then you need to make these Crispy Spider Webs.

Some of our other favorite Halloween desserts that we have on our site include: Chocolate Covered Strawberry Pumpkins, Pop Tart Ghost Pops and Pumpkin Patch Munch.

WHY THIS RECIPE WORKS:

  • Minimal ingredients help these come together easily.
  • They are mini, so the perfect-sized single-serving dessert.
  • Easily double these or make them larger to have more at once.

INGREDIENTS NEEDED (FULL RECIPE BELOW):

Eggs
Granulated sugar
Milk
All-purpose flour
Baking powder
Salt
Oil for frying
Powdered sugar for topping
Melting chocolate for decoration

HOW TO MAKE CRISPY SPIDER WEBS:

  1. In a large bowl, whisk the eggs and sugar together until smooth. Carefully whisk in the milk.
  2. Add the flour, baking powder, and salt, and whisk until smooth with no lumps.
  3. Now, set aside in the fridge until ready to fry the cakes OR place half the mixture into a gallon-sized plastic bag and close it, letting all the air out first.
  4. In a heavy bottom skillet, place about 1 ½ to 2 inches of oil over medium heat to 350°F.
  5. With scissors, snip a tiny hole in one of the bottom points of the bag so now you have a funnel. Carefully pour some of the batter into the hot oil using your funnel. Do this by making a small circle and zig-zag lines into the oil, so the batter forms a small “web” or circle.
  6. Fry until golden brown, and carefully flip this over with a tong. Let the other side get golden brown. This only takes about 2 minutes on each side. Now, let drain on a wire rack over a sheet tray. Keep repeating with the remaining batter.
  7. Dust them with powdered sugar.
  8. Melt the chocolate and using another plastic baggie, snip off a corner and use this to decorate the tops of the funnel cake like a spider web. Serve immediately.

WHAT KIND OF CHOCOLATE IS BEST?

We like melting chocolate wafers for this recipe as they melt really well and are great for decorating. We used dark chocolate for this recipe, but you can also use semi-sweet or milk chocolate as well.

DO I HAVE TO USE CHOCOLATE?

No, you can also use black icing for the spider web decoration if you want. You can make this yourself, or you can purchase cookie decorating icing from the store.

CAN I MAKE THESE LARGER?

Absolutely, these are smaller because we wanted to make more and have them more as a smaller single-serving dessert for kids and adults.

If you want to make them larger, just double the size, and instead of 16, you will have 8.

HOW TO STORE:

The funnel cake batter can be stored in an airtight container in the refrigerator, where it keeps for up to 3 days. I do not recommend storing these after making them as they are best eaten right away.

TIPS AND TRICKS:

  • These are best served warm. Since they will be warm, the melting chocolate will not harden. If you want the chocolate to harden, wait until the funnel cakes are completely cool, then pipe on the chocolate.
  • Plastic or candy spiders can be put on top of these.
  • The powdered sugar adds a great sweetness to these, I recommend using it.
  • You can use other chocolate, see above on how to do that.
  • If you don’t want to use chocolate you can use black icing in its place.
  • This works best using a piping bag with the tip cut off.
