FREQUENTLY ASKED QUESTIONS ABOUT THIS RECIPE:
WHAT IS IN A LONDON MULE COCKTAIL?
A London Mule cocktail mainly is made up of fresh lime juice, the best gin, and ginger beer.
It’s a refreshing cocktail that offers a tangy, spicy, and slightly sweet taste.
I like to go a little heavier on the ginger beer, personally (I have a surplus of ginger beer at my house, haha). Though the primary flavor is gin.
You can find the balance that works best for you!
HOW IS THIS DIFFERENT THAN OTHER MULE COCKTAILS?
Mostly, the difference lies in the choice of alcohol.
While a classic Moscow Mule uses vodka, the London version uses gin.
This gives the London Mule recipe a distinct juniper note, thanks to the gin.

ANY ADDITIONS?
Oh, you can add all kinds of different flavors! And pick whatever type of gin you want. Try these ones out.
- Add a sprig of fresh mint for a burst of freshness.
- Introduce a splash of simple syrup for added sweetness.
- Use cucumber slices for a crisp twist.
- Mix in muddled mint for an aromatic touch.
- Add a few drops of spice extracts for extra kick.
- Throw in a few juniper berries for an enhanced gin flavor.
- Experiment with different types of ginger beer for varying levels of spiciness.
- Stir in some fresh ginger for an added zing.
- A splash of watermelon juice for sweetness.
- Place a lime wheel on the rim for garnish.
- Garnish with a mint sprig for an extra aromatic touch.
ANY SUBSTITUTIONS?
While it won’t be a classic London Mule recipe anymore, these subs will certainly be tasty! Pick your own personal preference.
- Use a ginger ale instead of ginger beer for a milder taste.
- Swap the gin for vodka for a more traditional Moscow Mule taste.
- Instead of granulated sugar, use coarse sugar.
- Use lemon juice instead of lime for a different citrusy vibe.
- If you don’t have fresh limes, bottled lime juice can work in a pinch.
- For a non-alcoholic version, simply skip the gin and enjoy a ginger-lime mocktail!

HOW TO STORE:
Refrigerator: If you’ve pre-made the mix, store it in a highball glass or airtight container and consume it within 24 hours.
This will get you the best flavor!
Freezer: Not recommended. Ice will dilute the drink as it melts, and freezing may alter the drink’s taste.
DANA’S TIPS AND TRICKS:
- Always use premium gin for the best tasting London Mule recipe.
- A classic copper mug can be a fun alternative to a rocks glass and keeps your drink cooler for longer. A chilled copper mug would be even better!
- To ensure the sugar sticks well to the rim, make sure the lime wedge you use is juicy.
- Choose a spicy ginger beer for that extra zesty kick.
- Don’t have a cocktail shaker? Just give your drink a quick stir in the glass.
- For a modern classic cocktail vibe, garnish with both a lime wedge and a sprig of mint.
If you’re a gin lover or just looking for a new cocktail to shake up your drink routine, the London Mule recipe is your answer.
The blend of tangy lime, aromatic gin, and spicy ginger beer creates a modern classic cocktail that’s hard to resist.
Ice cold cocktails like this are so satisfying.
