Ampersand Pallet Sign

Hi everyone! It’s Mellisa from The Life of a Craft Crazed Mom sharing a fun craft! Like most of my pallet signs, I happen to come across this image on my Silhouette software.  I thought it would look awesome on one of my pallets.  I been wanting to give my mud room a makeover and decided I was going to go with this blue and green color scheme.  Anything with this ampersand sign is so popular so I thought I’d join in the trend.  I can’t wait to hang it up!!

What do you say, want to make one of your own?

Pallets are hands down one of my favorite craft projects to make.  I love that everything doesn’t have to be perfect.  The way I look at it, the more imperfections, the more character.  When constructing this particular pallet, I decided to paint the background white.  Sometimes the natural grays of the pallet wood are so beautiful I hate to paint over the top.  These on the other hand were not quite aged enough for my taste.

Back to the process, after painting the background white, let it dry.  As for the image, I used my silhouette to cut the image out and used it as a large stencil.  One question people have asked me before is “how do I get the stencil so large?”.  The answer is, I cut it out in about four to six different pieces of paper (depending on the size of the pallet)  and piece them all together.  And yes, it’s extremely time consuming!  So after it’s cut out, I use adjustable adhesive to stick the stencil to my wood.  From there, figure out your color pallet and paint on!!  After the paint is dry pull of your stencil. I usually opt to lightly sand the sign to help give it an aged appearance.  With this one, like many, I still thought it needed that WOW factor.   I decided to add a small bunting.  Loved It!!

Even without a Silhouette, this would be a great pallet project to make.  Try to freehand the ampersand or find one here from Google images.  Just print, and cut it out.  As for the words, use simple letter stencils.

Visiting from the SITS girls! Love your sign. I’m on a bit of an ampersand kick myself. 🙂 And the bunting was a great idea. Totally pulls it together.

My husband makes a lot of things from pallets. In fact that is his business. He hasn’t got a large inventory at all, but he makes things to order. He likes these signs a lot, and said they are easy to make. I love your balloon sign a lot too.
