Creamy, savory, and truly irresistible, this French Onion Dip Recipe is the best chip dip to always have on hand. Skip the store-bought can and easily make your favorite dip at home!
Place a large skillet over medium heat. Once hot, add the olive oil, onion, salt, sugar, and pepper, and stir to combine.
Cook, occasionally stirring, for 25 minutes until the onions turn a deep golden brown. Halfway through the cook, lower the heat to medium-low.
Take off the heat and allow the onions to cool to room temperature.
Add the mayonnaise, cream cheese, sour cream, and garlic in a large bowl and whip until smooth with an electric hand mixer.
Add the cooled onions to the bowl and stir them in. Cover the bowl with plastic wrap. Place it in the fridge overnight so the flavors can mingle together, do not skip this step.
Place the dip into a serving dish a serve it with chips, crackers, or your favorite veggies. Add a garnish of chives if desired.

This a normal-sized batch for snacking, but to feed a crowd, you can easily double it.
