Cocktail picks (optional, but so cute!)
HOW DO I INFUSE VODKA?
For best results, use high-quality vodka.
Infusing the vodka is probably the easiest part of this already effortless recipe. Simply place your candies in a mason jar or other airtight container, cover with vodka, and wait for the flavors to develop.
The longer you let them sit, the more sweet and flavorful the vodka will become, so you may want to play around with the infusion time until it’s just right for you. I recommend around eight hours or so.
When you’re ready, strain the candies from the vodka and marvel at your creation!
Your candy-infused vodka should last for around six months, so it’s not a bad idea to make a large batch; if you’re planning on hosting a party with this watermelon vodka drink as your signature drink, having the extra will come in handy when you get requests for more!
WHAT GARNISHES CAN I USE?
To garnish the rim of your glass, simply run a slice of lime around the rim and dip the glass upside-down in sprinkles.
If you’re feeling *extra* fancy, skewer a couple of sour watermelon candies with a cocktail pick (I like these bamboo knot picks) and balance it on top of the glass!
With pink sugar sprinkles, garnishes of lime, and a couple of watermelon sour patch candies, your fanciful creation will be almost too pretty to drink! (Keyword: ALMOST! your taste buds will thank you later!)
Some other garnish ideas:
- Watermelon slice, watermelon chunks, or watermelon wedge
- Fresh mint, mint leaves, or mint sprig
- Lime wheel
To make your own colored sugar for garnishing the rim, follow these steps:
- Put granulated sugar in a jar
- Add a drop or two of food coloring of your choice.
- Screw the jar lid on and shake, shake, shake!
- Repeat until you’ve reached your desired color. It’s that easy!
TWISTS & ALTERNATIVES:
If sour patch watermelons aren’t your thing, don’t fret. There are more sour patch flavors and other candies, like jolly ranchers, gummy bears or even bubble gum!
Feel free to go wild, here; after all, soaking things in vodka is a common way to make drinking more fun.
This isn’t limited to vodka, either; feel free to try this out with tequila or rum, and let me know how it is!

DANA’S TIPS AND TRICKS:
- To ensure that the slushies are extra cold, you can chop up the watermelon and freeze the chunks well in advance of this recipe (be sure to remove the seeds, first). While you’re at it, freeze your glasses, too!
- Add the candy to vodka before you go to bed so it infuses while you sleep. Alternatively, you can put them together first thing in the morning to enjoy your beverage later that evening.
