When I was really small my favorite candy was Nerds. My favorite way to eat them, other than throwing my head back and eating straight from the box, was in a blizzard! Ahh, those were the days! Tart, tangy and sweet Nerds are a great, fun addition to summer treats.
Combining strawberry Kool-Aid and watermelon Jell-o makes for a great flavor combo for a popsicle base. I have seen many different kinds of Jell-o popsicles and I really think you need to stick to colors that are similar. Or else you will end up with some funky looking popsicles! LOL, you can really do any flavor combo you wish! Nerds go with all flavors, IMO.
Strawberry Watermelon Nerds Popsicles
Ingredients
- 1 3 oz box watermelon Jell-o
- 1 pkg strawberry Kool-Aid
- 3/4 Cup granulated sugar
- 1 Cup hot water
- 3 Cups cold water
- Nerds
Instructions
- Place sugar, Jello-O and Kool-Aid in a large bowl. Add in the hot water and whisk until everything dissolves. Add in the cold water and whisk to combine.
- Fill popsicle molds half way with mixture. Freeze for 45 minutes if using small molds, you want the mix to be half way frozen so it might take longer for the size of mold you are using. Just don't let it freeze the whole way.
- Break up ice crystals with a toothpick, sprinkle with Nerds, about 1 teaspoon. Let freeze for another 45 minutes or until solid. Fill almost to the top with more liquid. Sprinkle with Nerds again, add popsicle sticks and freeze until solid. Serve and enjoy! It might be hard to remove popsicles, if so, dip into hot water to loosen.
I put together a short video tutorial on how I made these nerds popsicles:
