Hi peoples! So, yesterday Jeremy and I went all out and had this super fun football party! I made a TON of football style food.
Mostly appetizers that you can eat standing and socializing. I love having a fun spread of appetizers to choose from, it makes eating so much more exciting and special!
We really got a kick out of decorating for our football party and devouring all the yummy treats I made! One of the stand out dishes were definitely these amazing chicken wings made with Beer!
Slow Cooker Drunken Bbq Chicken Wings
You guys! These wings are super moist and tender on the inside with a sticky bbq caramelized sauce. And the best part? They are slow cooked in beer for 5 hours and slathered in homemade bbq sauce that has more beer in it! It definitely has a distinct flavor but will have your guests guessing, what is that?! (As they keep hoarding more and more wings! LOL) They will be sure to talk about these babies in the future and request them at upcoming parties!

Slow Cooker Drunken Bbq Chicken Wings
Ingredients
- 1 large package chicken wings cut into flats and drumettes, tips removed
- 1 bottle beer
- 2 Tbls bbq seasoning any brand will do
- Drunken BBQ sauce:
- 1 1/2 Cup light brown sugar packed
- 1 1/4 Cup ketchup
- 1/2 Cup white vinegar
- 1/2 Cup beer I used Bud Light
- 2 tsp yellow mustard
- 1 tsp paprika
- 1 tsp kosher salt
- 1 tsp ground black pepper
Instructions
- Layer wings in slow cooker set on low heat. Between layers, evenly season with bbq seasoning.
- When you have layered all the wings, slowly pour in the beer. Let cook for 5 hours.
- When wings are cooking place all the ingredients for the sauce in a sauce pan.
- Whisk together so ingredients combine and place over medium heat, stirring until the brown sugar dissolves.
- Let mixture come to a bowl for 3 minutes and continue to stir. Take sauce off the heat and let cool until ready to baste chicken wings.
- After the wings have cooked for 5 hours, place on a sheet tray and place in a pre heated 350 degree over. Let cook for 30 minutes, so most of the cooking liquid from the slow cooker evaporates.
- Turn wings over with a tong, and brush with bbq sauce. Let cook 20 minutes. Take wings out again and flip, basting in more sauce. Let cook an additional 20 minutes.
- Serve and enjoy!
Things you might need for this recipe:
It may seem like a long time to cook these wings but believe me they are worth it! It is a perfect recipe to use for a game day like we had, while the wings were in the slow cooker I was able to throw together everything else needed for the party!
Check it out, I think I may have gone a little crazy:
So yea, I’m a Bears fan which you would never guess from these pictures. Jeremy is a die hard Packer. Exhibit A:
Things can get pretty interesting with him and my family, LOL. It’s all in good fun and having all this delicious food helps to bring us together!
Here is a little break down of our spread:
Roasted Garlic Goat Cheese Pinwheels with marinara for dipping, cream cheese stuffed mushrooms on top of the cheese head, in the front, little sausages drenched in drunken bbq sauce and Slow Cooker Drunken Bbq Chicken Wings!
Chips with Roasted Garlic Cream Cheese Dip, Puppy Chow and Triple Chocolate Blondies!
Whew, it was like a mini Thanksgiving going on in here, and I have the pile of dishes to prove it! But, I really love how everything came out and the food, if I do say so myself, was delicious!
I’m thinking about doing something similar to this again for the SuperBowl, do you have any SuperBowl traditions?? I’d love to hear about them in the comments below and get some more fun ideas!

Dana,
I’ll be making these for the next 49er game. They look amazing.
These do look amazing but I hate ketchup and there is a whole lot of it in this recipe. Do you think I could use something else?
Honestly, the end result tastes absolutely nothing like ketchup itself so do keep that in mind. The only thing MAYBE you could substitute would be regular tomato sauce but I don’t think it will be nearly as good or taste the same. So sorry, I wish I had a better answer!
I see these happening for the superbowl! Would love for you to come over and share at our link party! http://mommyondemand.com/happiness-homemade-1/
Wow Miss Dana! Looks like you throw one heck of a party! I love that you cooked the wings in the slow cooker for most of the time. A lot of them have to be fried and I just hate to do that. Looks like ya’ll had an amazing time 🙂
These look yummy. I love trying home made BBQ sauces. Just one question… Or maybe 2 :). The 5 hours in the slow cooker on high or low? Mine has 4 settings: 4hr & 6 hr high and 8hr &10 hr low… Also my only issue with slow cooking is whenever I do bone in chicken it just falls right off the bone, is this an issue with these?
Thanks
I would set yours to 4 hour high, I cooked mine on 5 hours low. These didn’t fall completely off the bone but they are very tender, just be careful when you take them out of the slow cooker. I would use a slotted spoon to help. Thanks for the questions and coming by!!
These wings are the most awesome wings that I have ever tasted! The bbq sauce is so rich and tasty that you fill up quickly 🙂 I used 5 lbs of wings. I browned the wings before putting in the crock pot- put them in my crockpot and only needed to cook them on high 3 hours. Put them in the oven for 15 minutes and then brushed on the bbq sauce. Baked another 10 minutes turned and basted on the other side-baked 10 minutes more. They were cooked perfectly and so delicious!
YAY, so glad you enjoyed them, thanks for letting us know how they came out!
How did you “brown” them?
did you use thawed or frozen wings? looking forward to making these for my sons birthday party!
They were thawed, he will looove them!!
awesome! thanks girl! 🙂
This was DELICIOUS!!! The sauce was AMAZING!!! My husband doesn’t like bbq sauce too much, but he really loved this one. This will work very well with ribs. Thank you!!!
YAY, I’m so glad you tried the recipe and loved it. Yes on ribs would be amazing!! Thanks again!!!
Hi, this recipe looks amazing. I’m making them tonight as one of our appitizers for New Year’s Eve. Quick question though, when you say “evenly layer in crockpot with BBQ sauce” is that just BBQ sauce and beer? Then BBQ sauce blend goes on after when you bake? Or do you put the BBQ sauce blend on wings in crockpot too?
Thank you!!
Evenly layer in the crockpot with the BBQ seasoning then pour on the beer. The sauce comes only when baking in the oven. I hope you like them, thanks!
