Fall is here my friends, and to me these fall flavors are just making me so happy! Apples, cinnamon, pumpkin, and all those glorious smells! Eeeek, I just can’t wait!

I made this Fried Apple Crumble over the weekend and Jeremy just went nuts for it! He is always a sucker for a classic recipe.

Especially desserts. I love to please him but, of course, knowing me I always have to tweak it! Thats kind of what I do, I have to make everything with my own twist.

And when you thought fried apples couldn’t get any better, you get this Fried Apple Crumble!

Fried Apple Crumble finished in baking dish

One of Jeremy’s favorite side dishes to get at Cracker Barrel are the fried apples. And, I always thought, “Hey! I can make those!”

But not only did I make them, I turned them into an all out fall dessert feast! (I’m a little excited about this one, can’t you tell?)

I love apple crumble recipes and this Fried Apple version just might be my favorite! No joke!

How to Make Fried Apple Crumble?

Fried Apples:

  1. Place butter into a large sauce pan over medium heat. Melt butter, add in the brown sugar and cinnamon, stir to combine.
  2. Add in the apples, coat in the butter mixture and let cook, stirring occasionally until the apples are just fork tender, about 10 minutes. Set aside.

Crumble Topping:

  1. Place flour and sugar in a medium sized bowl. Mix to combine.
  2. Dice up the butter in small pieces, add to the flour mixture, using your fingers roll the butter into the flour until it forms a small pebble/sand consistency. Add in the chopped pecans and mix to combine.

Fried Apple Crumble:

  1. Preheat oven to 400°F degrees.
  2. Place apples in an oven safe dish. Top with the crumble. Bake for 20-25 minutes until golden brown on the top and the apples are bubbly.
  3. Let cool slightly, serve with ice cream and more chopped pecans for garnish if desired. Enjoy!

See how easy this recipe is? I mean it is almost effortless, yes there is a few steps, but at the end it turns into this amazing dessert that you just can’t resist!

As you can see, I left the skin on these apples. This is totally up to you. The skins soften up enough where you don’t even notice that they are there.

It did give the Fried Apples more texture in the finished dish. If you want more of a soft apple interior, then peel them first. Easy, peasy!

How to store:

We like to refrigerate this recipe, when there are leftovers (that doesn’t happen often) we cover the baking dish with foil or plastic wrap and it should last up to 3 days.

This recipe can also be frozen if you are not eating right away or have leftovers. If you are baking to freeze then make sure that your dish is freezer safe.

Then wrap tightly in foil and place in freezer, if you have leftovers I recommend scooping into an airtight bag or container and place in the freezer.

This should freeze for up to 3-4 months. To reheat let thaw in refrigerator and scoop out into individual dishes and heat in microwave.

Tools used to make Apple Crumble:

  • Sauce Pan
  • Mixing Bowl
  • Baking Dish

Of course this Fried Apple Crumble is amazing on it’s own. But, I’m a sucker for that warm gooey dessert with drippy cold ice cream on top. YESSS.

And, just a couple more pecans on top for crunch… optional of course! We love toppings around here and regularly top a to of desserts with various things.

Is apple crumble healthy?

Like all desserts this should be eaten in moderation. It is a delicious treat filled with yummy apples!

Ahhh, so comforting… so delicious! As always, I really hope you enjoyed today’s recipe! Since you’re here already, why don’t you look into these other amazing fall desserts:

Tips and Tricks:

  • You can use any good baking apple of your choosing, for this recipe we used Granny Smith.
  • This recipe can be frozen, see my tips above.
  • We like to top this with pecans, but other nuts can be substituted as well or omitted alltogether.
  • We made this in a pie plate but another good option would be a cast iron skillet.
