Hi again everyone, I am Rosemary from An Italian in my kitchen. The summer went by so fast and now we head into my favourite time of the year, Autumn. I love everything about the fall, the cooler weather, the amazing fall colours, and all the wonderful baking and the smells that fill the house. And these Cinnamon pastry twists certainly bring that wonderful cinnamon scent into our home.
Cinnamon Pastry Twists
This recipe brings back so many memories. My grandmother used to make these for her kids when she made her homemade pies and she had left over pie pastry and then, of course, my mother would make these for me, my sisters and my Dad and now I make them for my family and friends, although sometimes I have to admit I omit the pie and just do twists. They are a big hit with my Italian friends and family. They are so easy and so yummy, they go perfectly with a cup of coffee or tea, but are also great on their own. One thing for sure you can’t stop at just one.!! Enjoy!
Cinnamon Pastry Twists
Ingredients
- 2 cups flour
- 1 teaspoon salt
- 3/4 cup cold firm butter
- 5-6 tablespoons cold water
Topping:
- 2 teaspoons cinnamon
- 3 tablespoons fine sugar
Instructions
- Pre heat oven to 350 degrees.
- In a small bowl mix together the cinnamon and sugar, set aside.
- In a medium bowl with a fork lightly mix flour and salt, with a pastry blender cut in the butter until it resembles coarse crumbs. Add cold water 1 tablespoon at a time and mix lightly with a fork after each addition, until the pastry comes together. Shape into a ball with your hands and then refrigerate for 30 minutes. Remove from the fridge and knead softly a few times to soften the dough. Roll dough about a 1/4 inch in thickness, cut into strips, twist the strip a couple of times, place on an ungreased cookie sheet, sprinkle with topping and bake in a pre-heated 180 degree oven for approximately 12-15 minutes. Let cool on cookie rack. Enjoy!
