Things have been a little hectic around here lately. Well, first of all this happened last weekend:
I introduce Peanut our little Dalmatian pup, she is a little handful but so precious! So needless to say, we have been cooped up here for a couple days. So, last night I wanted to make our own little grillathon to mix it up, in honor of the Finest Grillathon happening next month (August 2015) in NYC. Using Ball Park Park’s Finest hot dogs, a team of grill masters will attempt the world record for longest running group BBQ!
Our mini grillathon consisted of Ball Park Park’s Finest Signature Seasoned hot dogs topped with “chili sauce’ and shredded sharp cheddar cheese.
Since the hot dogs were the main course and filling, we just had some chips and dip on the side with fresh sliced tomatoes, with lots of salt and pepper of course!
The chili sauce I made is similar to an east coast chili. It has no beans, only ground beef and a lot of different spices you wouldn’t expect. It is so good and I whipped it up in only 30 minutes. This meal came together so fast and was SO delicious!
"Chili Sauce" Chili Cheese Dogs
Ingredients
Chili Sauce
- 1 pound ground beef I used ground chuck
- 8 oz crushed tomatoes or tomato sauce
- 1/3 Cup ketchup
- 1/4 Cup water
- 1 teaspoon yellow mustard
- 1 teaspoon chili powder
- 1/2 teaspoon ground cumin
- 1/4 teaspoon soy sauce
- 1/4 teaspoon Worcestershire sauce
- 1/4 teaspoon garlic powder
- 1/4 teaspoon onion powder
- pinch of ground ginger
- pinch of cinnamon
- salt and pepper to taste
Chili Cheese Hot Dogs
- 1 package Ball Park Park's Finest hot dogs I used the signature seasoned variety
- Sharp cheddar cheese shredded
- Potato Bread hot dog buns or buns you prefer
Instructions
Chili Sauce
- Brown ground beef in a large skillet over medium heat until cooked through. Drain fat. Place dried spices in pan with the beef and mix together. Let "fry" in the fat for 30 seconds so the flavors get aromatic, add in the remaining ingredients except for salt and stir to combine. Cover and let simmer for 30 minutes, stirring occasionally to make sure nothing sticks to the pan. Taste and season if necessary. Set aside.
Chili Cheese Hot Dogs
- Grill hot dogs over medium heat until cooked through. Serve in the hot dog buns with the chili sauce and top with cheese. You can add other toppings as well that you love, chopped onions, mustard, whatever you desire! Enjoy!
Yum! I looove grilling and finding new ways to make classic recipes is always welcome!
Whenever I am grilling out it always brings back great summer memories from growing up! We have always been a “food centered” family, enjoying new recipes and eating together. My Dad has always loved to grill so it always reminds me of him!
